Cemetary vandalism costly

WANDA ENGLISH BURNETT PHOTO

Delbert Abplanalp, Sexton of the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery at Napoleon, stands beside the chain link fence that was damaged over the weekend and will cost at least $1,000 to repair. He noted that sometime in the night on Friday, October 3, a vehicle plowed down about a 300 foot section of this fence and left the scene. Abplanalp, who has taken care of the cemetery for 21 years, says while there have been various acts of vandalism over the years, nothing has been this bad. The incident is under investigation by Deputy Bill Dramann of the Ripley County Sheriff's Department. If anyone has any information about the incident they can call Abplanalp at 852-4860 or the sheriff's department at 689-5558.
