After losing to Lawrenceburg
in a road game last Friday night, the Milan Indians
wanted redemption in the sectional tournament
and they got just that.
The Indians defeated the Tigers
56-46 in the first round of the sectional tournament
played at Milan, ending Lawrenceburg's season.
Milan's Rex Parker opened the game
with a two pointer giving
the Indians an early lead, but the Tigers struck back tying the
game early. Lawrenceburg took the lead and held on to it through
the rest of the first quarter. Milan never trailed by more than
four in the quarter and that was where they were as it ended. After
the first quarter Lawrenceburg was winning, 15-11.
In the second quarter the two teams
traded buckets early in the quarter until Milan
made a comeback and about halfway through the
quarter Parker hit a field goal to give the Indians
the lead. The Indians went up by as many as four
points but they would end the half with just
a two point advan
tage. Going into the locker rooms the score was 31-29 in Milan's
favor.
The Indians continued to pour it
on the Tigers in the third quarter outscoring
them 13-5 in the quarter. At the end of three
quarters Milan was leading 44-32.
In the fourth quarter the two teams
scored evenly with both squads adding 12 to their
total making the final score 56-46.
Rex Parker led the Indians with
a double-double scoring 34 points and pulling
down 14 rebounds. Three Milan players followed
Parker with 5 points apiece including Stephan
Laub, Matt Swisher and Matt Disbro. Swisher finished
with a team high 4 assists and 2 steals.
The Indians will be playing against
North Decatur on Friday in the first game of
the second round of the tournament. The Indians
get another chance at redemption since North
Decatur defeated Milan in the first game of the
season. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00
pm.
