The Jac-Cen-Del Eagles were nearly
outscored by one player in the first game of
the 1A Regional Tournament last Saturday at
Edinburgh High School. The Eagles finished
with 50 points and Henryville's Shane
Meadows finished with 48 as his team advanced to the regional finals
by defeating the Eagles 74-50.
Tyler Einhaus put the Eagles on the board
first with a jumper but the Hornets quickly
tied the game. Henryville went ahead early
taking a 10-4 lead. The Eagles bounced back
and Adam Peetz tied the game with a jumper
at 10-10 with just under 3:00 left in the first.
From there Jac-Cen-Del had trouble scoring
and managed to add only 2 points to their total
in
the final 2:40 of the quarter. After one quarter of play Henryville
was leading 17-12.
Peetz hit a bunny to cut the lead to three
early in the second quarter, but that was the
closest the Eagles would get. Henryville built
up a nine point lead, but again the Eagles
would come back. Kyle Hackman put the finishing
touches on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 4 with
under 2:00 left to play in the half. From there
the Hornets built their lead back to 9 to end
the half. After the first half of play the
Eagles were trailing 30-21.
In the third quarter the Eagles didn't score
for the first 2:30 until Hackman finally hit
a bunny and followed that with another bunny
to force Henryville to call a time-out with
the score at 35-25. Out of the time-out the
Hornets pushed their lead to 18, topped off
with a four point play making the score 43-25.
At the end of the third quarter the Eagles
were trailing 53-33.
In the fourth quarter Jac-Cen-Del was outscored
21-17 as the Henryville Hornets sealed the
deal to advance to the championship game.
Kyle Hackman led the Eagles in scoring with
18 points followed by Adam Peetz with 10 and
Tyler Einhaus with 9. Peetz finished the game
with a double-double grabbing 11 rebounds to
go along with his 10 points. Peetz finished
with a team high 3 steals and a team high 2
blocks. Chip Schuler led the team with 3 assists.
The Eagles wrapped up their season with a record
of 10-14.
