Lady Indians open season with ten run rule win over Oldenburg

The Lady Indians' softball team picked up a big victory in their season opener at home against the Oldenburg Twisters on Monday night. The Indians defeated the Twisters 13-3 in five innings to start the season 1-0.

Oldenburg got on the board early with their first batter crossing home plate to give them an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Their lead wouldn't last long as Milan tied the game up in the bottom of the inning when Jenna Johnson scored after being walked.

The Lady Indians added five more to their total in the second inning and one more in the third. After three innings of play Milan was leading 7-1.

In the fourth inning Oldenburg scored two more times to push their total to three. When Milan came to bat the score was 7-3 in favor of the Indians. In the bottom
of the fourth the Lady Indians added five more to make the score 12-1.

The Twisters were unable to score in the fifth allowing Milan to end the game early if they scored just one run in the bottom of the inning. Jenna Johnson came across home plate when Kayla Pennington hit a double to push the lead to 10 and end the game in five innings.

Senior Kayla Pennington led the Indians in hitting going 4 for 4 with a double, 2 triples, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's. Junior Lauren Ison went 3 for 3 with a double one run scored and 4 RBI's. Sophomore Jessica Gress was 2 for 3 with a double, one run scored and 2 RBI's.

Kayla Teer pitched the entire game for the Indians, giving up three runs on 4 hits with 2 walks and striking out 4 batters.

The Lady Indians continue their season tonight (Thurs.) at home against Greensburg. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.

Lady Raiders fall in first game of season against Jennings County

South Ripley's softball team suffered a loss in their season opener at the hands of Jennings County on Monday night at home. The Lady Raiders fell to the Lady Panthers 12-2.

The Lady Raiders fell behind early and weren't able to score until the fifth inning when Holly Toops scored on an Ashley Burress single. They scored again in the sixth inning with Jessi McConnell crossing home plate off a Jennifer Rogers single. Jennings County was able to score in every inning but the first and fifth to get their 12 runs.
Casey Payne picked up the loss on the mound pitching three innings, giving up 7 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits, walking just one batter and striking out none. Danielle Riehle came in for Casey and pitched three innings, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits, walking no batters and striking out 1.

Ashley Burress got one of the Raiders' five hits, going 1 for 3 with one RBI. Kristen Huss went 1 for 1 and Jennifer Rogers batted 1 for 3 with an RBI. Danielle Riehle batted 1 for 2 and Eileen Crawford went 1 for 2.

The Lady Raiders next game is this Friday night at Madison. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
