Jac-Cen-Del's baseball team splits double header at home against Oldenburg

After defeating the Switzerland County Pacers 10-0 in six innings on Friday night at home the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles split a doubleheader with the Oldenburg Twisters at home on Saturday. The Eagles fell in the first game 5-4 then turned around and won the second 4-2.

In the first game the Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when both Bryan Schwanholt and Brent Pettit crossed home plate. Both runs scored on an Adam Peetz hit.

Oldenburg was held scoreless until the third quarter when they scored four runs to take the lead. Andrew Vollmer and Chip Schuler both scored in the fifth inning to tie the game up at 4 apiece.

Oldenburg scored their fifth and
final run in the sixth inning and were able to hold the Eagles scoreless through the rest of the game to get the victory.

Adam Peetz batted 3 for 3 for JCD with 2 doubles and 4 RBI's. Bryan Schwanholt went 1 for 2 with one run scored and Andrew Vollmer batted 1 for 3 with 1 run scored.

Schwanholt was the Eagles' starting pitcher pitching 5 innings giving up no earned runs on 6 hits walking 2 batters and striking out 2. Brent Pettit came in to close the game pitching 1 inning giving up no runs on zero hits and striking out two batters.

In the second game the Eagles jumped out to an early lead again when Andrew Vollmer scored on a Brent Pettit hit in the first inning.

Oldenburg took the lead in the
third inning with two runs scored but it didn't last long as the Eagles added two more in their half of the inning to make the score 3-2 in favor of JCD.

Jac-Cen-Del scored their fourth run in the sixth inning when Adam Peetz crossed the plate to get the 4-2 win.

Adam Peetz pitched the entire game for JCD giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits.

Brent Pettit got one of the Eagles' two hits batting 1 for 2 with a double, 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Kyle Horan chalked up the Eagles' other hit going 1 for 3 in the contest.

Jac-Cen-Del's next game is scheduled for this Friday at South Ripley. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.

Lady Raiders fall on the road to Madison in close contest

South Ripley's softball team suffered a loss on the road last Friday to the Madison Cubs. The Lady Raiders fell 3-1 in the seven inning battle.

Both teams scored two runs early with the Cubs scoring their two in the first inning and South Ripley scoring their two in the second inning. The Lady Raiders' runs came when Jessi McConnell was walked then scored after stealing two bases, one of which was home. Jennifer Rogers scored the Raiders' second run after getting on base on a fielder's choice and getting batted in by a Tracy Keyes single.
Neither team scored again until the seventh inning when the Lady Cubs score their third run to get the close victory.

Jennifer Rogers chalked up one of SR's three hits going 1 for 3 scoring one run. Casey Payne batted 1 for 1 and Tracy Keyes went 1 for 3.

Danielle Riehle started on the mound for the Raiders pitching 3 innings and giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits while striking out one batter. Casey Payne came in to pitch the final four innings picking the loss after giving up 1 run on 1 hit and striking out 3.

The Raiders' next game is this Friday at home against Lawrenceburg. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
