Lady Raiders' Softball team defeats Lawrenceburg at home

South Ripley's softball team scored more than half their runs in the first inning during their 12-7 win over Lawrenceburg at home last Friday.

After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning the Lady Raiders scored 9 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a lead they wouldn't lose.

South Ripley gave up five more runs before they scored again in the sixth inning where they added three more to their to
tal to make the final score 12-7.

Danielle Riehle was the Raiders' starting pitcher pitching 2 1/3 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 3 hits, walking 6 batters and striking out two. Casey Payne came in to pick up the win pitching 4 2/3 innings, giving up 4 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, walking 2 batters and striking out 11.

Tracy Keyes led the Raiders in batting going 2 for 4 with one run scored. Andrea Lauber went 1 for 3 with one run scored and Jessi McConnell with 1 for 3 with 1 triple and 3 runs scored.

Jac-Cen-Del's baseball team loses two straight by one run

Jac-Cen-Del's baseball team picked up two straight losses by a total of two runs last week. In their first game the Eagles fell to Shawe at Shawe 11-10. They then traveled to South Ripley to fall to the Raiders 6-5.

Against Shawe the Eagles had a 7-6 lead going into the sixth inning. They added one more run in the sixth to take an 8-6 lead. When Shawe came to bat in the sixth they scored 5 runs to take an 11-8 lead. Jac-Cen-Del had one more chance to take the lead in the top of the seventh, but managed to score just two runs, which wasn't enough as Shawe slipped by with the 11-10 win.

Chip Schuler led the Eagles batting 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 1 RBI. Brent Comer finished the game going 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

Bryan Schwanholt was the starting pitcher pitching 5 2/3 innings giving up 8 runs (7 earned) on 5 hits, walking 9 batters and striking out 6. Michael Busch came in to pitch the final 1/3 inning giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 1 hit and walking two batters.
In their game against South Ripley neither team scored until the third inning when the Raiders' Chris Buchanan crossed home plate to give SR the early lead.

Jac-Cen-Del took the lead in the top of the fourth when they scored four runs to make the score 4-1. SR added one more to their total in the bottom of the inning to make the score 4-2.

The Raiders took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when they scored 4 runs to take the 6-4 lead. Again JCD had one more chance to take the lead, but they managed to score just one run to make the final score 6-5.

SR was led by Chris Buchanan who went 2 for 4 with a double and one run scored. Josh Cumberworth batted 2 for 3 with 1 run scored.

Brent Pettit chalked up 2 of JCD's 4 hits in the contest, going 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Adam Peetz got one of the other hits going 1 for 4 with a double and one RBI. Andrew Vollmer got the other hit going 1 for 5.

SR's next game is Wednesday on the road against Rising Sun. Jac-Cen-Del doesn't play again until Monday when they will be hosting Franklin County. Both games are scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
