Although the rain and soggy fields put a stop to most games on Friday afternoon, the Milan Indians' softball team wasn't afraid to get their uniforms dirty as they hosted the South Decatur Cougars. The Lady Indians added another notch in their win column as they defeated the Lady Cougars 12-8.

Milan gave up 2 early runs to South Decatur in the top of the first inning but made up for it when they came to bat. Milan's first four batters crossed home plate to give the Lady Indians and early 4-2 advantage.

The Lady Indians went on to add five more runs to their total in the next two innings while holding the Cougars scoreless to make the score 9-2 going into the top of the first inning.

South Decatur cut into the Milan lead a little in their half of the
fourth inning by scoring a run but the Lady Indians retaliated and added their final three runs in the bottom of the inning to give them their 12 runs.

The Lady Cougars made a charge in the seventh inning scoring five runs, but it was too little too late as the Indians held on to the 12-8 victory to push their record to 6-1 on the season.

Kayla Teer was the winning pitcher, pitching all 7 innings giving up 8 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits, walking 2 batters and striking out 6.

Katie Volz batted 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Jenna Johnson went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 runs scored and Kayla Pennington batted 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 doubles.

The Lady Indians suit up again tonight (Tues.) at North Decatur. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
