Casey Payne picks up two straight victories on the mound for Lady Raiders

The Lady Raiders' softball team picked up two straight victories in two straight last week with pitcher Casey Payne picking up both of them on the mound. Payne gave up just one run to the South Dearborn Lady Knights on Wednesday as the Raiders won 4-1 at home. She then came off the bench in the Raiders' win over Lawrenceburg on the road Saturday as she didn't give up any runs in five innings to help SR win 14-5.

In their game against SD the Raiders were held scoreless through two innings while the Knights took an early lead in the top of the first inning with their first batter of the game crossing the plate.

The Raiders tied the game at one apiece in the top of the third inning when Ashley Burress crossed home plate. Jennifer Roberts scored in the fourth inning after getting two stolen bases, to give the Raiders the 2-1 lead.

Holly Toops and Jessi McConnell both scored in the top of the sixth inning to give the Raiders the 4-1 victory.

The Raiders finished the game with just five hits with Jessi McConnell and Ashley Burress both going 1 for 3 with 1 run scored each. Eileen Crawford batted 1 for 1, Jennifer Rogers went 1 for 3 and Holly Toops went 1 for 1 with a run scored.

Payne pitched all 7 innings giving up just 1 earned run on 4 hits, with no walks and 8 strike outs.

In their game against Lawrenceburg the Raiders jumped out to an early lead when Jessi McConnell and
Tracy Keyes scored in the top of the first inning. They added to their lead in the second inning by scoring four more runs to make the score 6-0.

In the bottom half of the inning the Raiders' defense allowed the Lady Tigers to nearly tie the game up scoring 5 runs, but it would be all the runs they would allow in the contest.

South Ripley added two more runs in the third, four in the fifth and two in the seventh to give them a to
tal of 14.

Danielle Riehle started on the mound for the Raiders, pitching 2 innings giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits. Casey Payne came in to pitch in the third inning, pitching 5 innings, giving up no runs on just 2 hits, while walking 1 batter and striking out 4.

The Lady Raiders' next game is this Wednesday at home against Switzerland County. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.


Eagles score 10 runs to defeat the Rebels at home last Wednesday

Jac-Cen-Del's baseball team didn't give up any runs to the visiting Southwestern Rebels until the fifth inning in their decisive 10-2 win Friday night.

Brent Pettit was the winning pitcher, pitching all seven innings and giving up 2 earned runs on 6 hits while walking 4 batters and striking out 11.

The Eagles' Brent Comer scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning after getting on base then scoring on a Kyle Horan sacrifice fly, which also put Tyler Bradshaw on third base. Chip Schuler was then walked and both Schuler and
Bradshaw scored on an Adam Peetz home run to give the Eagles an early 4-0 lead.

From there the Eagles scored one run in both the fourth and fifth innings and four more in the sixth to give them a total of 10. Brent Pettit scored the Eagles' tenth run in the sixth with a home run.

Leadoff batter Kyle Horan finished the game batting 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and 1 run scored. Adam Peetz went 2 for 3 with a home run, 3 RBI's and 3 runs scored and Brent Comer batted 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.

The Eagles' next game is this Wednesday at home against Shawe. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
