County Schools run in annual Ripley County Invitational Track Meet

Batesville held the annual Ripley County Invitational Track Meet last Thursday with all four county schools participating.

In the girls portion of the meet the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles were the champions with 71 points followed by Batesville with 55, Milan with 52 and South Ripley with 48. Any individual or relay team that placed first in an event were named to the All-County team. South Ripley's girls named to the All-County team were the members of the 400 and 1600 relay's, Julie Lipperd in the shot put and Ciara McGuire in the 200. Jac-Cen-Del had two individuals named to the All-County Team including Alisha Lord in the 3200 and Casey Gerwe in the discus. Three runners from Milan made the team including Megan Lade placed first in three events, Morgan Scheiner in the 1600 and Sarah Mills who placed first in 2
events. Milan's Megan Lade was named the Most Valuable Runner for the meet.

In the boys' portion of the meet the Batesville Bulldogs were the champs with 95 points followed by Milan with 60, South Ripley with 43 and Jac-Cen-Del with 30. Michael Cole was the only runner from South Ripley to be named to the All-County Team, placing first in the 110 hurdles. Milan had two individuals named to the All-County Team including Jordan Caudill in the shot put and Ryan Thompson who won three events. Tucker Brown was the only individual from Jac-Cen-Del to be named to the All-County Team for winning the discus. Milan's Ryan Thompson was named the meets Most Valuable Runner.

Jac-Cen-Del, Milan and South Ripley will be competing against each other again this Thursday in the ORVC Meet. This year the meet is at Madison and is scheduled to start at 5:00 pm.

Eagles score 10 runs in consecutive wins over conference schools

Jac-Cen-Del's baseball team scored 10 runs in two straight games to pick up two straight victories. Last Wednesday the Eagles hosted the Shawe Hilltoppers and defeated them 10-3 and on Friday they traveled to Southwestern-Hanover to defeat the Rebels 10-0 in six innings.

Against Shawe the Eagles scored two straight runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Kyle Horan and Chip Schuler both crossed home plate to give the Eagles their two runs.

JCD added two more in the bottom of the third inning when Tyler Bradshaw and Kyle Horan scored to give the Eagles a 4-0
lead.

Shawe finally scored in the top of the first inning to make the score 4-1. In the Eagles' half of the inning they added six runs to put the game out of reach at 10-1.

The Hilltoppers scored two more runs in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough as JCD picked up the 10-3 win.

Bryan Schwanholt was the winning pitcher, pitching all seven innings and giving up 3 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits, walking just 2 batters and striking out 12.

Chip Schuler finished the game batting 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's. Brent Comer went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and 3 RBI's and Adam Peetz went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 1 RBI.
In their game against Southwestern the Eagles scored half their runs in the top of the second inning and finished off the Rebels by scoring the other five through the next four innings.

Brent Pettit was the winning pitcher, going all 6 innings and giving up no runs on 3 hits, walking 2 batters and striking out 12.

Adam Peetz finished the game batting 2 for 4 with 1 run scored. Bryan Schwanholt went 2 for 4 with a double, one run scored and 3 RBI's. Brent Pettit also batted 2 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored.

The Eagles next game is Friday on the road against Milan. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
