Milan boys' track team wins back to back ORVC Titles

Milan's boys' track team stayed on top of the ORVC with their second straight ORVC Invitational Track Meet championship. The Indians won the seven team invitational at Madison last Thursday convincingly with 127 points, nearly 40 points more than second place South Ripley's 89. Jac-Cen-Del finished third with 80 points followed by Rising Sun with 78, Southwestern with 61, Switzerland County with 27 and Shawe with 2.

Any individual or relay team that finished first in an event were named to the All-Conference team and will be honored at a banquet on a later date. South Ripley had two individuals and one relay team make the All-Conference team including Brian Baugh in the shot put, Michael Cole in the 110 hurdles and the 400 relay team, which is made up of Michael Cole, Ryan Underwood, Chandler Stearns and Chris Buchanan. Milan had two individuals make the All-Conference team including Jake Hornberger in the discus and Ryan Thompson in three
events (long jump, 100 & 200). Jac-Cen-Del had two individuals and two relay teams make the All-Conference team including Derek Jones in the 800, Kyle Horan in the 1600 and the 3200 relay team and the 1600 relay team.

In the girls portion the Rising Sun Lady Shiners took home this year's title scoring 135 points followed by Southwestern with 107, Switzerland County with 91, South Ripley with 44, Milan with 43, Jac-Cen-Del with 34 and Shawe with 10.

South Ripley's Julie Lipperd was the only Lady Raider to make the All-Conference team winning the shot put. Megan Lade was the only Lady Indian to make the All-Conference team winning the long jump. JCD's only individual to make the All-Conference team was Casey Gerwe winning the discus.

The girls' track teams continue their season tonight (Tues) in the Sectional meet at Franklin County. The boys continue their season on Thursday in the Sectional meet at East Central. Both meets are scheduled to start at 5:00 pm.

Lady Raiders avenge earlier season loss to Lady Indians

South Ripley's softball team had a chance to redeem themselves after losing to Milan earlier this season in a home game against the Lady Indians last Wednesday. The Lady Raiders were able to avenge the loss handing the Indians a 13-11 loss in a seven inning battle.

Milan struck first in the top of the first inning when three of their first four batters crossed home plate to give them the early 3-0 lead. Katie Volz, Jessica Haugh and Lauren Ison all scored to give Milan their three runs.

The Lady Raiders struck back with three of their first four batters scoring to tie the game at three apiece. Jenny Roberts, Ashley Burress and Tracy Keyes all scored for SR to tie the game up.

Neither team scored in the second inning but when Milan came to bat in the third they regained the lead. Volz, Haugh and Kayla Pennington all scored to give the Lady Indians the 6-3 lead.

Milan's lead didn't last long as the Lady Raiders managed to score 6 runs in the bottom of the third inning. Danielle Riehle, Eileen Crawford and Chrystal Martin all finished the inning with an RBI, Martin finished with 2 as the Raiders took a 9-6 lead.

Johnson both score in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to one run, but the Raiders added 4 in their half of the fifth to push their advantage to 5 at 13-8. Milan scored three more in the top of the seventh but it wasn't enough as the Lady Raiders walked away with the 14-11 lead.

Danielle Riehle was the winning pitcher, pitching all seven innings and giving up 11 runs on 10 hits while walking 3 batters and striking out 2.

Kayla Teer picked up the loss, pitching 5 innings and giving up 13 runs on 11 hits while walking 4 batters and striking out 3. Beth McIntosh came in for Teer to pitch on inning, giving up no runs on 2 hits, walking none and striking out 1.

Jennifer Rogers finished the game batting 2 for 3 with one run scored. Chrystal Martin went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored and Tracy Keyes went 1 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI's.

For the Indians Kayla Pennington batted 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's. Miranda Roberts batted 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and Katie Volz went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

South Ripley's next game is this Wednesday at Shawe and the Lady Indians play again this Friday at Oldenburg. Both games are scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
