Local varsity girls track teams compete in thirteen team Sectional meet

Franklin County was the site of this year's IHSAA Girls Sectional Track and Field meet, which was held on Tuesday night. Thirteen schools in all competed for a chance at the sectional title and to compete in the Regional track meet.

East Central took this year's title easily winning with 125 points, forty-one points in front of second place South Dearborn who scored 84 points. Rushville was third with 70 points followed by, North Decatur with 67, Rising Sun with 57.5, Oldenburg with 47, Franklin County with 35.5, Lawrenceburg with 30, Switzerland County with 27, Jac-Cen-Del with 17, Milan with 13, South Ripley with 10 and Batesville with 2.

Any individual who finished in the top four in their event or any relay team who finished in the top three qualified to compete in the Regional Track Meet at New Palestine next Tuesday evening. Only two girls from this
area qualified to compete in the Regional meet including Milan's Megan Lade who placed fourth in the long jump and South Ripley's Julie Lipperd who placed fourth in the shot put.

Jac-Cen-Del's junior high track teams win ORVC Meet

On Monday, May 11 Southwestern hosted the annual Junior High ORVC Track Meet. All seven ORVC schools showed up to compete for a chance at this year's ORVC title. Jac-Cen-Del took a clean sweep of this year's titles, with both the boys and the girls winning the meet.

In the girls' portion of the meet the Lady Eagles scored 111 points followed by Switzerland County with 71, Rising Sun with 64, South Ripley with 60, Southwestern with 29, Shawe with 27 and Milan with 7.

The Lady Eagles had several first place finishers in the meet including Samantha White in the 1600 and the 800, Jodi Hardy in the 400. Allana Newhart in the 200, Valorie Wagner in the 100, high jump and long jump and the 400 relay made up of Wagner, Newhart, Jaime Lunsford and Kierston Young. Valorie Wagner was named the Most Valuable Runner in
the meet. South Ripley's 800 meter relay team finished first for the Lady Raiders.

In the boys' portion of the meet the Eagles managed to scored 90 points followed by Rising Sun with 83, Southwestern with 81, South Ripley with 66, Switzerland County with 30, Milan with 16 and Shawe with 6.

Jac-Cen-Del had several first place finishers in the boys as well as the girls including the 400 and 800 meter relay teams, which are made up of Andrew Huff, Coty Horn, Robert Simmons and Kellen Stolze, Glenn Schuck in the discus and Brandon Gehl in the 200, 400 and high jump. Gehl was named the meets Most Valuable Runner. South Ripley had two first place finishers including Erik Demaree in the 1600 and Jake McConnell in the 110 hurdles.
