South Ripley's
baseball team picked up two big ORVC victories
last Friday against the conference leading
Rising Sun Shiners. With the two wins the
Raiders put themselves in the lead for the
conference race.
The first game on Friday was
a make-up from a game the two teams started
on Monday. They started in the bottom of
the fifth inning with the Raiders leading
4-0. South Ripley went on to score one more
run in the fifth to take the 5-0 lead. Rising
Sun was unable to score in the last three
innings, giving the Raiders the 5-0 victory.
Izzy Burkett finished the game
batting 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a
stolen base and Tyler Ester went 2 for 3
with one run scored.
In their second game against
the Shiners the Raiders won 7-2 to hand the
Shiners just their second loss in the conference.
The Raiders fell behind early
as Rising Sun put a run on the board in the
top of the first inning. The Shiners' lead
didn't last long as the Raiders took over
scoring two runs in their half of the inning.
Both Tyler Ester
and Brandon Seabolt scored on a Scott Hobbs double to give the
Raiders the lead.
Izzy Burkett scored in the
bottom of the third on a Josh Cumberworth
sacrifice fly to give SR the 3-1 lead. Jacob
Lemon batted Scott Hobbs in in the bottom
of the third to give the Raiders their fourth
run.
Rising Sun added their second
run on the top of the fourth inning, but
it would be all they would get. South Ripley
scored two in the bottom of the fourth and
one more in the sixth go get their seven
runs.
Tyler Ester finished the game
batting 2 for 3 with a run scored. Brandon
Seabolt went 3 for 4 with a double and Scott
Hobbs batted 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.
After winning two straight
against Rising Sun the Raiders traveled to
Lawrenceburg on Saturday for a doubleheader.
South Ripley lost both games by the ten run
rule, playing only ten innings in two games.
In game one the Raiders lost 16-1 and in
game two the Raiders lost 12-0.
South Ripley continues their
season on Wednesday at home against Milan,
which is going to be senior night for all
spring sports. That game is scheduled to
start at 4:30 pm.
