Jac-Cen-Del's baseball team picked
up a one run victory over North Decatur on the
road on Monday night this week, then turned around
and suffered a one run loss to Batesville on Tuesday
at home.
Against North Decatur the Eagles defeated the
Chargers 9-8 in a seven inning battle. JCD struck
in the first inning with Chip Schuler scoring on
an Adam Peetz hit to give the Eagles an early 1-0
lead.
The Eagles' Michael Busch scored in the second
inning to give them 2 runs to the Chargers none.
North Decatur finally got on the board in the bottom
of the third inning scoring one run to make the
score 2-1.
Jac-Cen-Del added three more to their total in
the top of the fourth inning with Kyle Horan, Chip
Schuler and Brent Comer all crossing home plate.
The Chargers added one more in the bottom of the
fourth to make the score 5-2.
The Eagles added another in the fifth but it was
the Chargers who had the big inning, scoring four
runs to push their total to 6. After five innings
of play the game was knotted up at 6 apiece.
JCD retook the lead in the top of the sixth inning
with three runs
to give them their nine runs. Adam Vollmer, Bryan Schwanholt and Damon Simon
all scored in the inning to give the Eagles the lead.
North Decatur had one more chance in the top of
the seventh inning, but they managed to score just
two runs giving them 8 and the loss.
Brent Pettit was the winning pitcher, pitching
all 7 innings and allowing 8 runs (5 earned) on
8 hits while walking just one batter and striking
out 4.
Adam Peetz finished the game batting 2 for 3 with
3 RBI's. Bryan Schwanholt went 3 for 4 with one
run scored and an RBI and Kyle Horan went 3 for
4 with a run scored and an RBI.
In their game against Batesville neither team
scored until the bottom of the sixth inning when
the Eagles scored two runs. Brent Comer and Bryan
Schwanholt both crossed home plate to give JCD
the 2-0 lead.
Batesville scored four runs in the top of the
seventh inning to take the late lead putting the
Eagles in a do or die situation. When the Eagles
came to bat in the bottom of the seventh they needed
at least two runs to keep the game going. Michael
Busch was the first batter of the inning and he
hit a homerun to cut the Bulldog lead to one. From
there the next three batters got an out to
end the game at 4-3.
Bryan Schwanholt was the Eagles' pitcher, pitching
all 7 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 2 hits,
walking 3 batters and striking out 4.
The Eagles managed only 4 hits on the contest
with Chip Schuler getting one of them going 1 for
4 with a double. Schwanholt had a hit going 1 for
2 with a run scored and Michael Busch went 2 for
3 with a homerun and one run scored.
