Changes to take place at JCD

At the Jac-Cen-Del School Board meeting held
May 18, it was noted that summer improvements will include
a portable classroom installation. The bookstore will also
be moved. The old bookstore will be a conference/storage and
testing room. The installation of the bleachers in the gym
will be done with the floor to be re-done in July.
High school teacher Judy Eaton was recognized. Eaton recently
published a book titled "Flowers and Leaves." The
book will be given a special display in the library.
Paul Thole reported the supermileage team placed 17th in the
state. The contest was based on miles per gallon. The Jac-Cen-Del
supermileage car got 181 miles per gallon. The first place
team got 1,500 miles per gallon.
Thole also updated the board on the Rube Goldberg Project.
JCD placed second in the state and went to Milwaukee to the
national competition where they placed fourth. The project
was a 43 step voting machine.
Attorney Tim Day announced that all paperwork has been completed
on the central office building. A clear title was given to
Superintendent Narwold.
The final property tax check was received from the Ripley
County Treasurer in the amount of $511,480.49. The Financial
Institution Tax for 2003 has not been received.
Boy Scout and JCD student Mike Evans proposed the installation
of a 30-foot flagpole to be placed by the soccer/track field.
Evans will do this for his Eagle Scout project. The corporation
will pay the cost of the pole which is $596.
Jr. Sr. High School Principal Ray Ratledge reported that graduation
was set to take place on May 29, with 67 students graduating.
Senior Awards Program was set for May 28 with $152,887 in scholarships
to be given
out.
All board members were present: Charlie Hughes, Paul C. Hardy,
John Billman, Deanna Young and Kathleen Dickman. Also present
to advise the board were Superintendent Bill Narwold and School
Attorney Tim Day.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 15,
at 7:30 p.m. at the Jac-Cen-Del Elementary School Library.
