Milan weightlifters win powerlifting competition

Fifteen year old Lucas Wall, from Milan High School recently won the state in the Indiana State Powerlifting Championships. The event was held in Fort Wayne at Bishop Dwenger High School on Saturday, May 22. Wall competed in the 198 class teenage division, at the USAPL Indiana State Powerlifting Championships.

Powerlifting is comprised of three events: the squat, the bench press and the dead lift. The winner is decided by totaling the three lifts together. The most total pounds wins the event. Thirty other lifters competed in Wall's weight class.

Wall also competed at the Columbus East Powerlifting Cham
pionships on May 8. Competing with Wall were classmates Marshall Williamson and Shane Smithson. There were four events at this meet and the Milan kids took home five of the medals. Wall received two medals, Williamson also received two medals and Smithson took home one medal. Other schools competing were Columbus East, Columbus North, Bloomington South, Jennings County and Clarksville.

All of the Milan competitors are coached by Mr. Mark Garrett, weightlifting coach, physical education teacher at Milan High School.

Raiders defeat conference rival Milan by ten run rule

South Ripley's baseball team picked up a big conference win over the visiting Milan Indians last Friday by ten run rule. The Raiders defeated the Indians 14-2 in five innings to keep a hold of first place in the ORVC.

The Indians got on the board in the top of the first inning when Bubba McIntosh scored on a Wes Edwards triple to give them the early 1-0 lead.

Milan scored again in the third when Terrill Ash crossed home plate on a Ben Schafer single. From there the Raiders took over the ball game. In the bottom of the third inning South Ripley knocked in nine runs to take the 9-2 lead. Tyler Ester, Brent Miller, Michael Fear and Izzy Burkett all picked up an RBI in
the inning.

South Ripley added five more in the bottom of the fourth inning giving the Indians just one more chance to make the game go seven innings. When the Indians came to bat the Raiders were able to retire the order with two strike outs and a routine ground ball.

Tyler Ester finished the game batting perfect for the Raiders going 3 for 3 with one run scored and 3 RBI's. Brent Miller also batted perfect going 2 for 2 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's and Brandon Seabolt went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's.

The Indians managed to chalk up just three hits in the contest with Wes Edwards going 1 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. Terrill Ash batted 1 for 2 with a double and Michael Prather went 1 for 2.
