Eagles blast Cougars in first round of sectional tournament

Jac-Cen-Del's baseball team walked all over the South Decatur Cougars in the first round of the sectional tournament played at Shawe High School this past Tuesday.

The Eagles handed the Cougars a 21-0 loss in five innings of play. They had enough runs in two innings to 10 run rule the Cougars, but they kept adding to it. After the first two innings the Eagles were winning 14-0, with 10 of the runs coming in the second inning.

Jac-Cen-Del added their final seven runs in the fifth inning to give them their 21 runs. Every starter for the Eagles, except one, crossed home plate in the contest.

Brent Pettit was the starting
pitcher for the Eagles, pitching one inning, giving up no runs on one hit while walking no batters and striking out one. Michael Busch came in to pitch, going 2 innings, giving up no runs on no hits, walking no batters and striking out 2. Tyler Bradshaw came in to close the game, pitching 2 innings giving up no runs on one hit while walking one batter and striking out 2.

Kyle Horan finished the game batting 3 for 3 with 4 runs scored and 4 RBI's. Brent Comer went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 5 RBI's and Chip Schuler went 1 for 2 with 3 runs scored.

The Eagles will be taking on the Oldenburg Twisters tonight in the championship game. That game is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.


Indians suffer shut out loss in first round of sectional tournament

Milan's baseball team was handed a huge loss in the first round of the 2A sectional at South Ripley on Tuesday night. The Indians lost to the Lawrenceburg Tigers 20-0 in five innings of play.

The Indians gave up four runs in the first inning to the Tigers but managed to hold them scoreless in the second. When the Tigers came to bat in the third the Indians were forced to stay in the field for awhile as Lawrenceburg added 16 runs to their total pushing their advantage to 20.

Milan managed to chalk up
just three hits in the contest with two of them coming from Bob Stanley who went 2 for 2. Terrill Ash picked up the other hit going 1 for 1. All three hits were singles.

Andy McIntosh started on the mound for the Indians, pitching 2 1/3 innings, giving up 11 earned runs on 11 hits. Wes Edwards came in to pitch 1/3 of an inning, giving up 6 runs (0 earned) on 2 hits. Bryan Beard came in to close the game out, pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up 5 runs (0 earned) on 5 hits.

The Indians wrap up their season with an 8-17 record and 3-9 in the conference.
