According to information from the Indiana State
Police, an accident occurred at the intersection of US 50 and
Michigan Road around 8:44 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, sending an
area woman to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police say Jacqueline H. Bryant, 32, of Holton, was traveling
south on Michigan Road near US 50 at a high rate of speed.
She disregarded the stop sign and collided with a 1983 Ford
Truck driven by Jessie S. Bannister, 25, of North Vernon, who
was westbound on US 50.
Information from Trooper James Wells of the Indiana State
Police, Versailles Post, noted that Bryant's car struck the
front passenger side of the truck causing both vehicles to
cross the eastbound lanes of US 50 and come to rest in a field
south of US 50.
Bryant was trapped inside her vehicle and suffered serious
injuries. Trooper Wells, who was in the area and responded
immediately to the scene noted that Bryant was trapped inside
in a small space.
Air Care was not able to fly due to weather conditions and
the patient was taken to Margaret Mary Community Hospital,
Batesville, by ambulance and later transferred to Methodist
Hospital in Indianapolis where she is in the intensive care
unit.
Bannister, along with his two children, who were passengers
in the truck, were taken to the St. Vincent Hospital in North
Vernon, where they were treated for minor injuries.
Police say the accident is currently under investigation and
charges are pending. Agencies assisting at the scene were the
Ripley County Sheriff's Department, Versailles Police Department
and Ripley County fire and EMS services.
