Parker decides to take his basketball career to Vincennes University

After an outstanding four year basketball career at Milan, Rex Parker has decided to continue his play at Vincennes University for the Alices. Vincennes is a NCAA Division I Junior College located in Vincennes, Indiana on the border of Indiana and Illinois, which has produced several NBA players including Shawn Marion, Tyrone Nesby and Bob McAdoo.

In his four years at Milan, King Rex accomplished many feats on the court including becoming the Indians' fourth all time leading scorer with 1,288 points. He was a varsity starter for three years and was named to the All-Conference Team all three years where he was voted the MVP his junior and senior year, the All-County Team for two years and the All-Sectional team for three years where he was MVP his junior year. He was voted as one of the top 100 players in the state, was put on the Indiana All-Star ballot and was named second team All-State. During his senior year he was voted as the 40 & 8 All-Star MVP and the IHBC All-Star game MVP, which was played in Paoli. He was third in the state in ranking as a complete player, qualifying for five out of six statistical categories (only one player in the state qualified for all six).

Parker helped lead his team to a sectional title in 2003 and to the conference title in 2003 and 2004. He received several team awards in his career including team MVP his junior and senior year, the scoring leader for two years, rebounding leader his senior year and the assist leader his junior year. His senior year he was give the Memorial William "Tiny" Hunt Award, which is voted on by the
area coaches and media. Milan Head Basketball Coach Randy Combs had this to say of his standout, "The fact that he was voted as the third in the state for all around player shows how valuable he was to our team. He was our main offensive weapon and defender and will be nearly impossible to replace. The opportunity to play for Vincennes is great for Rex because they are one of the best junior colleges in the nation."
Parker took care of business in the classroom as well as on the court. Upon graduation he received Academic Honors and the Honors diploma and was a part of the National Honor Society.

His plans are to study Sports Medicine at Vincennes for two years and transfer to a four year school and continue playing basketball and get his degree. He is the son of Alex and Sally Parker.

Pflum headed to Hanover to play basketball for the Panthers

South Ripley graduate Joel Pflum recently committed to play basketball at NCAA Division III Hanover College for this coming school year. After being a three year starter on South Ripley's varsity basketball team Pflum decided to continue his career for the Panthers at Hanover.

Pflum came to South Ripley before his sophomore year from Franklin County where he played varsity basketball as a freshman.
While with the Raiders Joel started varsity all three years and accomplished a lot on the court including becoming SR's third all time leading scorer. He was voted on the All-Conference team three years, the All-County team three years and the All-Sectional team three years where he was named the Co-Most Valuable Player his senior season. He helped lead his team to a sectional title in his senior year, which is the Raiders' first since 1988.

Pflum was a catalyst on his team and received several team
awards in his four year career, which included the team MVP his junior and senior year, the Mental Attitude Award his sophomore and junior year, Rebounding Award all three years, the Free Throw Award all three years, the Assist Award his senior year and the Best Defense Award his senior year.

Pflum was also a standout student as well as athlete. He was in the top 20 in his class and received the Indiana Academic Honors medal. He also received an Academics Honors Scholarship from Hanover and a scholarship from the Versailles Lions Club.

He plans on studying education in mathematics and athletics while at Hanover.

He is the son of Kathy and Ken Cone of Versailles and Darrell Pflum of Brookville.
