Osgood woman gives update
Life is good - weight is going!

"I have my life back!" exclaims Char Bultman of Osgood, as she describes her struggle with weight and the decision to have gastric bypass surgery in December of 2003.

At her six-month check up with gastric bypass surgeon Dr. Wesley Alexander, Bultman said she was missing something - that something was 115 3/4 pounds!

Has it been easy? "No." Has it been worth it? "A hundreds times yes," tells Bultman, who went from virtually living her life from her easy chair in her Osgood home to bouncing from machine to machine at Curves for Women in Versailles.

"She's really amazing," noted Teresa Johns, the assistant manager at Curves.

Since Bultman has joined Curves three months ago, she has lost 37 3/4 pounds and 18 1/2 inches. "The inches are the most important right now," she noted, saying she is trying to avoid surgery to reduce the flabby skin from her rapid weight loss. "The doctor says it's possible with the exercise program I'm on now to not have surgery."

Curves bills its program as a "unique program that makes exercise easy." Bultman knows that exercise is not easy, but agrees that Curves is something she could do and enjoys. "I come here three days a week and would come more if I could," she noted as she was getting ready to do the 30-minute workout. "On days I don't come here (Curves) I walk three miles."

Bultman says she feels so much better after exercising and when asked how important exercise really is in a weight loss program she says it makes all the difference in the world. This is from the woman who will tell you she had trouble walking just next door to her daughter's house before her weight loss.

She agrees you have to find the right program for you, but notes that Curves is ideal for most women she has talked to. "When I first came here I couldn't even get on some of the machines," she noted. She added that the women who come to Curves would sometimes help her along with the staff. "I feel like I'm with friends. But now, I can do all the machines by myself," she noted with a sense of pride.

On a recent vacation trip with family and friends she said family members told her to "slow down...we can't keep up with you."

"I've gone from a size 5X to a 2X and dropped enough pounds to make another whole person and I feel good," noted Bultman, who says she recommends both the gastric bypass surgery and exercising at Curves. "Just come to Curves and tell 'em Char sent you," she laughed.

Bultman also drinks lots and lots of water and only consumes 1100 calories per day, each 6 ounce size portions with 60 grams of protein.

Bultman's story was first brought to you in the Osgood Journal on March 2, as the Osgood lady wanted to share her story to "possibly help someone else." Those who are interested in contacting her may do so by writing to her at: PO Box 56, Osgood, IN 47037.
