According to information from the Indiana State
Police, 30-year-old Rick Denny of Greensburg, was arrested
following a disturbance at the Ripley County 4-H Fair on Tuesday,
July 27.
ISP Cpl. Dan Elmore responded to the scene and said he received
initial information that Denny was a Westport Police Officer.
He later discovered Denny was the New Point Town Marshal, but
was on an unpaid leave of absence from the department at the
time of the incident at the fair.
Witnesses said several people were involved in what they perceived
to be a fight near the area that the Motocross races were taking
place at the grandstands on Tuesday evening about 7:49 p.m.
Authorities noted that the people involved were told to leave
the fairgrounds, but Denny did not.
According to a press release from Cpl. Robert Garcia of the
Indiana State Police, Versailles Post, the case is still under
investigation.
A charge of Disorderly Conduct is pending against Denny, who
bonded out of jail and awaits an initial hearing in Ripley
County Superior Court.
