Clerk, Treasurer, Coroner races uncontested
Deadline ends to file for General Election

Ad campaigns have taken up much airtime on television programming for the upcoming fall election - mostly giving reasons why you should or should not vote for the presidential candidates, George Bush and John Kerry.

And locally, campaigning will begin as the final deadline for any filings was August 20, at noon.

Information from the Ripley County Clerk Ginger Bradford notes that there are some uncontested races for the 2004 General Election. Present Clerk Bradford, along with Ripley County Treasurer Earline Copeland and Ripley County Coroner Eric Karsteter will not have competition in the fall election.

Some races that will have competition include that of recorder. Present recorder Tammy D. Borgman, on the Republican Ticket will be challenged by Nancy K. Adams on the Democrat Ticket.

For commissioner seats in District 2 there are two choices - Charles L. (Chuck) Folz, (present commissioner) Republican, who is challenged by Tim Howder on the Democrat ticket.

In District 3, the choices for commissioner are Lawrence E. Nickell, Republican and Charles E. Cook, Democrat.

There are six vying for three slots for Ripley County Council At-Large. Those choices are: Mark Busching, Donald E. Dunbar and Benjamin W. (Ben) Peetz, on the Republican ticket and Harland Delap, Ray Doane, and Ray L. Raney, on the Democrat ticket.

Tammy Wilhoit will run unopposed on the Republican ticket for the Town of Osgood Clerk-Treasurer. For Town Council positions, Jeffrey J. Volz, present Republican member, will be challenged for Larry R. Winters on the Democrat ticket.

For the South Ripley School Board: Randel S. McIntosh is on the ballot for District 3; Daniel P. Goris and Chris Bradford for District 6; and Ronald K. Evans, Vincent N. Horton, Barry D. Lauber, and Jim Samples for District 7.

Batesville Community School Corporation has two running for District 3: Chris R. Lowery and Michael A. Bettice.
More information on polling place changes will be published in future issues, along with any pertinent information about the local fall election.

The last day to get registered to vote is October 4, which is the same day absentee voting begins in the Ripley County Clerk's Office, according to Marilyn Hunt. The election
room is located on the second floor of the courthouse in Versailles.

Clerk Bradford encourages everyone to get out to the polls on November 2, and vote.
