Indians football suffers 55-7 loss to Batesville at home

Milan's football team suffered a big loss to the Batesville Bulldogs last Friday at Milan High School. The Indians fell to Batesville 55-7 to pick up their second loss on the season, dropping their record to 0-2.

Batesville jumped out to an early lead scoring 21 points in the first quarter while holding the Indians scoreless. In the second quarter the Bulldogs continued to pour in on Milan adding another 21 points to take a 42-0 lead. Milan finally got on the scoreboard when QB Ben Schafer connected with WR Matt Posten on a 68 yard touchdown pass with under 1:00 left in the first half. At halftime the score was 42-7 in favor of the Bulldogs.

In the second half Batesville added 13 more points to their total while holding Milan scoreless to make the final score 55-7.
On offense Milan was held to just 142 total yards, 80 passing and 62 rushing. They finished with just 2 first downs in the game. On defense they allowed Batesville 404 total yards, 319 rushing and 85 passing and gave up 17 first downs to the Bulldogs.

Quarterback Ben Schafer finished the game passing 3 for 9 with 80 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Ben Schafer had all three catches for 80 yards with a touchdown and a long of 68 yards. Bob Stanley was the teams leading rusher with 34 yards on 7 carries for an average of 4.9 yards per carry. Nick Arthur had 25 yards on 12 carries.

Jeremy Herbert had 4 kick off returns for 70 yards, Posten had 3 for 52 and Stanley had 1 for 3 yards.

Milan will be traveling to Lawrenceburg to take on the Tigers this Friday. That game is scheduled to start at 8:00 pm (slow time).

Lady Raiders push perfect record to 8-0 with win over Austin

team put their perfect record on the line Tuesday night when they hosted the Austin Eagles. Just like the seven previous matches the Lady Raiders came out on top over the Eagles to push their record to 8-0 on the season.

The Lady Raiders defeated Austin in three straight games with scores of 25-18, 25-8 and 25-11. Two Raiders finished the match serving perfect with Casey Payne going 22 for 22 with 4 aces and Tracy Keyes going 11 for 11 with an ace. Sheena Braley was the teams top setter going 26 for 29 with 10 kill assists. Kristen Huss finished the match going 15 for 19 with 6 kill assists. Payne was perfect on passing for the match going 16 for 16 with 6 digs and Keyes was nearly perfect going 18 for 19 with 3 digs.
Julie Lipperd led the team with 8 kills on 14-16 hitting followed by Erin Collier and Kristen Huss with 6 kills each. Collier went 10 for 11 on hitting and Huss went 10 for 14. Lipperd led the team with 10 solo blocks and Collier had 3.

In the reserve match the Lady Raiders won in two games with scores of 25-20 and 25-23. Two Lady Raiders were perfect on serving with Erica Burress going 7 for 7 and Kellie Collier going 5-5. Collier was the top setter going 19 for 22. Burress led the team with 5 kills on 7-7 hitting and was one of the teams top passers completing 23 out of 27 passes. With the win the Lady Raiders push their record to 6-1 on the season.

South Ripley continues their season tonight (Thurs.) on the road against Rising Sun. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm with the JV playing first.
