Lady Raiders' winning streak halted at eight with loss to Rising Sun

South Ripley's volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season last Thursday on the road against Rising Sun. After falling to the Shiners the Lady Raiders looked to start another winning streak with a win over the Madison Cubs at home this past Tuesday night.

Against Rising Sun the Raiders fell in three straight games with
scores of 20-25, 15-25 and 22-25. Casey Payne was the top server in the contest going 16-17 with 3 aces. Erin Collier finished the match serving 7-8. Payne and Collier were also the top passers with Payne completing 34 out of 38 passes and Collier completing 27 out of 31. Julie Lipperd led the team with 12 kills on 29-32 hitting followed by Kristen Huss with 9 kills on 21-25 hitting. Lipperd and Huss also led the team in blocks with Lipperd finishing with 8 solo blocks
and Huss finishing with 2 solo.

In the JV game the Lady Raiders lost with scores of 19-25 and 16-25. Erica Burress was the leading Raider in serving, passing and hitting. She went 5-5 on serving, completed 23 out of 24 passes and had 3 kills on 9-9 hitting. Kellie Collier was the top setter going 24-25 in the contest.

In their game against Madison the Lady Raiders won in four games with scores of 26-24, 25-19, 24-26 and 25-18.

Kristen Huss led the Raiders in serving going a perfect 24-24 with 2 aces for 17 points. Casey Payne went 17-18 with 3 aces for 10 points and Erin Collier was 16-17 for 8 points. Tracy Keyes was the top passer completing 35 of 37 passes with 8 digs. Payne led the team with 14 digs and completed 36 out of 41 passes. Julie Lipperd was the team leader with 15 kills on 36-41 hitting followed by Kristen Huss with 13 kills on 22-28 hitting.

Erin Collier had 7 kills on 24-26 hitting. Huss led the team with 28 kill assists on 36-43 setting. Sheena Braley had 18 kill assists on 26-29 setting. Lipperd had a team high 17 solo blocks followed by Abbey Lemon and Erin Collier with 4 solo blocks apiece. With their win over the Cubs the Lady Raiders push their record to 9-1 on the season.

In the JV game the Lady Raiders won in two games with scores of 25-20 and 25-19. Erica Burress was the only Raider to finish the match serving perfect going 5-5. Kellie Collier was nearly perfect going 9-10. Burress was the teams' top passer completing 21 out of 22 passes with 2 digs. Amanda Cox led the team with 3 kills on 8-9 hitting and Collier was the top setter with 6 kill assists on 15-16 setting.

The Lady Raiders continue their season tonight (Thurs.) at home against Lawrenceburg. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm with the JV playing first.

Milan hosts three way meet against Jac-Cen-Del and Rising Sun

Milan's Cross Country teams hosted a three-way meet Tuesday night at Baylor Park with Rising Sun and Jac-Cen-Del competing against the Indians.

In the girls' portion of the meet the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles were the winners with 27 points followed by Rising Sun with 29. Milan didn't have a full team competing in the meet.

Rising Sun's Caitlin Sauerhage was the individual winner winning by more than 2:00 with a time of 14:42. JCD took the next two places with Alisha Lord crossing the finish line in second with a time of 17:00 and Amber Lunsford taking third in 17:51. Danielle Clemens was the Indians' first runner to finish taking 11th place in a time of 19:27.

For the Eagles finishing third was Kaitlin Hughes in 5th place running an 18:28. Following Hughes was Kelley Wagner (6th 18:33), Casey Gerwe (12th 19:28) and Laura Hicks (15th 19:31).

Megan Lade was the second runner for Milan to cross the finish line coming in 13th place in a time of 19:48 followed by Sarah Mills (16th 19:38) and Kim Batta (18th 24:58).

In the boys' portion of the meet Rising Sun took first place as a team with 39 points followed by Milan with 43 and Jac-Cen-Del with 43 (Milan's sixth runner beat JCD's sixth runner giving them second place.)

Brandon Welti continued his winning streak taking first place with a time of 16:00. JCD's Kyle Horan fin
ished second with a time of 17:01.

Milan's second runner to finish was Adam Baylor placing 4th in a time of 16:17. Following Baylor for the Indians was Nathan Hampton (6th 17:33), Mark Horstman (15th 19:23), Josh Yatsko (17th 20:06), Daniel Fleming (18th 20:10) and Levi Knowlton (19th 20:37).

JCD's second runner to cross the finish line was Justin Eaton running a time of 17:24, which was good enough for 5th place. Following Eaton was Andrew Wagner (9th 18:08), Matt Hicks (13th 18:56), Grant Gilland (14th 19:14), Andrew Huff (20th 21:07), Austin Lord (21st 21:35) and Blake Billman (22nd 22:16).

In the Junior High Meet Jac-Cen-Del won both the boys and girls races. In the boys' portion the Eagles scored 20 points followed by Rising Sun with 35. Milan didn't have a full team competing. JCD took the first two places with Blake Sutton winning in a time of 11:16. Derek Lunsford took second place in a time of 11:29.

In the girls' portion of the meet the Eagles had a team score of 25 points followed by Rising Sun with 34 and Milan with 70. JCD's Sam White finished second in a time of 13:13 followed by Brooke Gilland in fourth in a time of 13:38, Jaime Lunsford in fifth with a time of 13:53 and Alyssa Herbert in sixth with a time of 13:59.

The varsity teams will be competing in the East Central Invitational Cross Country meet tonight (Thurs.). That meet is scheduled to start at 5:00 pm.
