South Ripley hosts annual Great Pumpkin Invitational Cross Country Meet

Out of thirty-five runners from five different schools JCD's Justin Eaton was the fastest taking first place in the annual Great Pumpkin Invitational Cross Country Meet held at South Ripley High School last Thursday. Eaton finished the 3.1 mile course in a time of 17:30 to help his team finish second with 58 points.

Rising Sun took the team title with a score of 36 followed by JCD. Following the Eagles was South Dearborn with 65 points then Switzerland County with 70 and South Ripley with 104.

Eaton's teammate Kyle Horan took third place with a time of 17:55. Following Horan was Andrew Wagner (10th 18:33), Matt Hicks (21st 19:43), Grant Gilland (25th 19:55), Austin Lord (31st 21:21) and Andrew Huff (33rd 21:27).

South Ripley's number one runner was Ariel Lawburgh placing 16th in a time of 19:02. Following Lawburgh was Erik Demaree (17th 19:03), Ryan Kohlmeier (22nd 19:47), Michael Mathews (26th 20:04), Nick Grider (28th 20:53), B.J. Sieverding (29th 20:54) and Cody Meyers (30th 21:21).

In the girls' portion of the race South Dearborn were the team champs with a score of 28 followed
by Jac-Cen-Del with 57, Rising Sun with 68, Switz. County with 74 and South Ripley with 144.

SC's Amanda Hon was the individual winner with a time of 16:03. JCD's Alisha Lord took third place running a time of 17:22. Amber Thompson was SR's first runner placing 26th in a time of 24:05.

Amber Lunsford was the Lady Eagles' second runner taking 9th
place in a time of 18:27. Following Lunsford was Kelley Wagner (12th 18:41), Kaitlin Hughes (16th 19:36), Casey Gerwe (17th 19:47) and Laura Hicks (24th 21:59).

Bernadette Gorman was SR's number two runner placing 28th in a time of 25:28. Following Gorman was Molly Walls (29th 25:54), Amy Hobbs (30th 26:21) and Sarah McCrory (31st 34:24).

Milan's varsity volleyball team defeats Twisters in five games at Oldenburg

The Indians' Varsity Volleyball team used all five games last Thursday to defeat the Oldenburg Twisters in Oldenburg. The scores in the five games were 14-25, 25-12, 24-26, 28-26 and 15-6. With the win the Indians push their record to 11-8.

Three Indians were perfect on serving with Miccah Roberts going 19-19 with an ace. Miranda Roberts was 16 for 16 with 2 aces and Dane Cutter went 8-8. Kaity Barton led the
team with 7 aces on 28-29 serving.

Miranda Roberts led the team with 11 kills on 28-31 hitting followed by Cutter with 8 kills on 21-25 hitting and Lacee Alloway with 5 kills on 17-21 hitting.

Jen Wullenweber finished the match with a team high 8 set assists followed by Lacee Alloway with 7 and Kaity Barton and Dane Cutter with 6 apiece.

In the reserve match the Lady Indians defeated the Lady Twisters in two games with scores of 25-13 and 25-
18. With the win they push their record to 6-8 on the season.

Three Indians finished the match serving perfect with Tosha John going 9-9 with 3 aces, Kady Alloway going 3-3 and Kirby Alloway going 2-2.

Kim Atwell led the team with 10 kills on 13-15 hitting followed by Kady Alloway with 5 kills on 9-15 hitting.

The Indians play again tonight (Tues.) on the road against Lawrenceburg. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm (slow time) with the JV playing first.
