Batesville wins both boys and girls races at Ripley County Invitational Meet

Batesville's cross country teams took a clean sweep of the annual Ripley County Invitational Cross Country meet at Jac-Cen-Del Saturday morning. Their boys team won with a score of 30 points followed by Jac-Cen-Del with 52, Milan with 58 and South Ripley with 85.

Milan's Brandon Welti took individual honors winning the 3.1 mile race with a time of 16:39. Batesville's Jim Turchyn took second in 17:05 and JCD's Justin Eaton finished third with a time of 17:08. South Ripley's first runner to finish was Erik Demaree taking 12th place with a time of 18:28.

JCD's number two runner was Kyle Horan with a 6th place finish running a time of 17:25. Following Horan for the Eagles was Andrew Wagner (11th 18:25), Matt Hicks (15th 18:55), Grant Gilland (17th 19:21), Austin Lord (21st 20:40) and Andrew Huff (27th 21:53).

Adam Baylor was the Indians' second runner to finish placing 7th in a time of 17:38 followed by Nathan Hampton (8th 17:57), Josh Yatsko (19th 19:55), Mark Horstman (23rd 21:14), Levi Knowlton (25th 21:19) and Daniel Fleming (26th 21:48).

Following Demaree for the Raiders was Ariel Lawburgh placing 13th with a time of 18:29 then Michael Mathews (18th 19:48), Ryan Kohlmeier (20th 20:16), BJ Sieverding (22nd 20:49), Cody Myers (24th 21:18) and Nick Grider (28th 22:56).

In the girls' portion of the meet Batesville finished with a team score of 25 followed by Jac-Cen-Del with 39, Milan with 60 and South Ripley with 92.

Batesville's Janice Laker was the individual winner with a time of
16:54. JCD's Kelley Wagner took second place running a time of 17:31. Danielle Clemens was Milan's top runner taking 7th place with a time of 18:16. SR's number one runner was Amber Thompson placing 16th in a time of 22:20,

Amber Lunsford was JCD's number two runner placing 4th in a time of 17:52. Following Lunsford was Alisha Lord (9th 18:54), Kaitlin Hughes (11th 19:29), Casey Gerwe (13th 20:03) and Laura Hicks (15th 20:51).

Kiley MacVey was Milan's sec
ond runner placing 8th in a time of 18:54. Behind MacVey was Megan Lade (12th 19:33), Sarah Mills (14th 20:45) and Kim Batta (19th 23:57).

South Ripley second runner to finish was Bernadette Gorman placing 17th in a time of 22:28. Following Gorman was Molly Walls (18th 23:10), Amy Hobbs (20th 26:00) and Sarah McCrory (21st 31:46).

All three schools will be competing against each other tonight (Tues.) in the Sectional meet at Jennings County. That meet is scheduled to start at 5:00 pm.

2004 Girls All-County Cross Country Team

The top ten individual finishers in Saturday's Ripley County Invitational Cross Country meet were named to the All-County Team. Milan's volleyball team makes it to championship match of ORVC Tourney

Milan's volleyball team took runner-up honors in this year's ORVC Tournament played at Switzerland County. The Lady Indians defeated Southwestern in the first round, Jac-Cen-Del in the second round and lost to Rising Sun in the championship match.

In their match against Southwestern the Indians won in two games with scores of 25-20 and 25-16. Milan finished the game serving perfect as a team with Jenn Wullenweber leading the way going 11-11 followed by Lacee Alloway who was 9-9 and Kaity Barton and Miccah Roberts who went 7-7 with 2 aces each.

Miranda Roberts and Dane Cutter led the Indians with 6 kills each with Cutter going 18-18 on hitting and Roberts going 13-16. Cutter was also the team leader in set assists with 6 and blocks with 2. Kaity Barton also had 6 set assists in the match.

In their match against JCD the Indians won in two straight games with scores of 25-21 and 25-22. Wullenweber was the only Indian to serve perfect in the match going 8-8 with 2 aces. Lacee Alloway led the team with 3 aces on 8-9 serving.

Miranda Roberts, Miccah Roberts and Dane Cutter led the team with 5 kills each. Miranda finished the match going 13-21 on hitting, while sister Miccah went 13-14 and Cutter went 14-17. Cutter finished the match with a team high 9 set assists followed by Barton with 7 and Wullenweber with 3.

In the championship match the
Lady Indians lost to the Lady Shiners in two games with scores of 20-25 and 21-25. Three Indians finished the match serving perfect with Miranda Roberts leading the way at 13-13. Kaity Barton and Jenn Wullenweber both went 5-5.

Lacee Alloway had a team high 7 kills on perfect 16-16 hitting followed by Miranda Roberts with 5 kills on 9-11 hitting. Cutter finished with a team high 7 set assists followed by Wullenweber and Barton with 4 apiece.

Cutter and Wullenweber chalked up the Indians' only blocks in the contest, both finishing with one each.

The Indians continue their season this Saturday in the Union County Invitational, which is scheduled to start at 9:00 am.
