Milan defeats Triton Central to cap off three game winning streak

Milan's football team wrapped up their regular season with a three game winning streak and taking four out of their last five contests after defeating Triton Central 35-20 last Friday night at home during senior night. "We put forth our best effort thus far in the season," stated Indian head coach Marty Layden, "The offensive line, along with Bob Stanley and Nick
Arthur did an excellent job up front in poor field conditions."

The Indians fell behind early when the Tigers punched a run into the end zone, but missed the PAT to take the 6-0 lead. Milan was unable to get on the scoreboard in the first quarter.

Matt Posten's three yard touchdown run in the second quarter tied the game up at 6-6. After Milan connected on the PAT the Indians were leading 7-6. But their lead didn't last
long as the Tigers QB connected with a wide receiver on a 32 yard TD pass to give Triton Central the lead. The Tigers failed to score on the 2-point conversion but had a 12-7 lead. The Indians added two more points to their total when Terry Moore sacked the Tigers quarterback in their end zone for a safety making the score 12-9. On Milan's next drive the Indians were able to find the endzone again when Matt Posten ran for 39 yards to score his second touchdown of the contest. With the score Milan regained the lead at 16-12. Triton Central scored before the end of the half and connected on the 2-point conversion to take the lead from the Indians. At halftime the Tigers were leading 20-16.

Milan dominated the second half of the contest allowing the Tigers no points and only two first downs in the entire half. The Indians scored two more times in the third quarter, once when Rusty Ison punched the ball in for a one yard score and the other when Posten rushed for a 48 yard score to give the Indians a 29-20 lead.

Bob Stanley scored the Indians fourth touchdown of the game on a one yard run adding 6 more points to their total, after the missed PAT, making the final score 35-20.

On offense the Indians chalked up a season high 377 yards, 41 passing and 336 on the ground. They had 15 total first downs and 65 yards on 8 Tiger penalties.

Matt Posten was the Indians' leading rusher, rushing for 237 yards on 26 carries and 3 TD's. Bob Stanley had 73 yards on 18 rushes with a touchdown and Rusty Ison had a touchdown on 7 carries for 15 yards.

Both Rusty Ison and Ben Schafer completed one pass in the contest. Schafer was 1-2 for 41 yards and Ison was 1-5 for a yard.

On defense the Indians gave up 219 yards, 81 passing and 138 rushing. They allowed the Tigers 8 first downs and 60 yards on 7 penalties.

Anthony Spaulding led the team with 6 solo tackles followed by Terry Moore and Shane McCormick with 5 solo tackles each. Moore had 4 tackles for a loss and a safety.

The Indians will open Sectional #38 play this Friday when they travel to Edinburgh to take on the Lancers. Kickoff is scheduled to be at 7:00 pm.

Lady Raiders avenge earlier season loss at home against Rising Sun

South Ripley's volleyball team had a chance to avenge a loss they had to Rising Sun in the ORVC Tournament last Tuesday at home. The Lady Raiders were able to redeem themselves defeating the Lady Shiners in five games with scores of 25-23, 23-25, 21-25, 28-26 and 15-11. With the win the Lady Raiders push their record to 18-6 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the conference.

Casey Payne was the Raiders' top server going 18-8 for 6 points. Tracy Keyes was 15-16 for 6 points and Erin Collier was 14-15 for 6 points. Payne and Collier also led the team in passing. Payne completed 48 out of 52 passes with 12 digs and Collier completed 38 out of 42 passes with 12 digs.

Leading the Raiders in kills with 20 on 29-29 hitting followed by Kristen Huss with 16 kills on 39-43 hitting and Erin Collier with 8
kills on 27-29 hitting. Lipperd also had a team high 5 solo blocks and 9 assisted followed by Huss and Collier with 4 solo blocks apiece.

Kristen Huss led the team in setting going 56-60 with 33 kill assists followed by Sheena Braley who was 74-80 with 23 kill assists.

In the reserve game the Lady Raiders lost in three games with scores of 25-21, 14-25 and 16-25. With the loss their record falls to 12-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Two Raiders finished the match serving perfect with Kellie Collier going 16-16 and Erin Webster go
ing 10-10. Collier and Webster were also the teams leading passers with Collier completing 22 out of 23 passes and Webster completing 27 out of 31 passes.

Eric Burress led the team with 3 kills on 10-12 hitting. Courtney Walker had 2 kills on 17-20 hitting.

Collier was one of the teams top setters going 32-35. Sally Adams was 12-13 and Susannah Mann was 10-12 in the match.

The Raiders wrap up their regular season tonight (Tues.) at home against Jac-Cen-Del. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm.
