After falling to Jennings County in their season opener the South Ripley Lady Raiders defeated the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles on the Raiders' home court Saturday night. South Ripley defeated JCD 57-40 in the four quarter battle.

The Lady Raiders jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. After one quarter of play the Raiders were winning 16-4. The Lady Eagles battled back though, cutting the lead to 8 at one point in the second quarter. At the end of the first half SR was leading JCD 25-14.

In the second half the Lady Raiders continued to pour it on the Lady Eagles pushing their lead to 20. JCD kept battling back but the Raiders kept their lead around 20 thorough most of the third quarter. South Ripley outscored Jac-Cen-Del 17-14 in the final quarter to hold on to the victory.

JCD Coach Scott Smith said about his team, "Despite the loss you have to look at the good things. We were able to hold Julie Lipperd to just 11 points with good defense from Huff and Abby Rohlfing. We got some production from our bench as well."

Kristen Huss led South Ripley in scoring with 14 points followed by Lipperd and Ciara McGuire with 11 apiece. Erin Collier and Beth Stratton both chipped in 9 points. Lipperd was the leading rebounder with 11.

JCD was led in scoring by Erika Simon with 9 points, followed by Janelle Hardesty with 8 and Talena Huff and Amanda Harmeyer with 5 each. Abby Rohlfing had a team high 5 rebounds. Hardesty finished with 2 assists and 3 steals, both team highs. After the contest both teams records go to 1-1 on the season.

The Lady Raiders continue their season tonight (Tues.) on the road against Oldenburg while the Lady Eagles continue their season Friday night also at Oldenburg. Both games are scheduled to start at 6:00 pm with the JV playing first.
