South Ripley's girls' varsity basketball
team picked up their second victory in a row with
a 45-23 win over Oldenburg Academy on the road
Tuesday night. With the win the Lady Raiders push
their record to 2-1 on the season.
South Ripley jumped out to an early double-digit
lead when they outscored the Lady Twisters 12-2
in the first quarter. Three Raiders made up the
12 points with Julie Lipperd, Ciara McGuire and
Kristen Huss all scoring 4 points apiece in the
quarter.
In the second quarter the Lady Raiders continued
to pour it on the Twisters adding 16 more to their
total while holding Oldenburg to 10. At the end
of the half South Ripley was leading 28-12. Lipperd
had 8 of her game high 14 points in the first half
and Huss finished the half with 7.
South Ripley slowed down the scoring in the second half but kept up the defensive
intensity. The Lady Raiders scored just 16 points in the entire second half
but was able to hold Oldenburg to just 9 points in the half.
Julie Lipperd led all scorers with 14 points.
Ciara McGuire had 10 points and Erin Collier and
Kristen Huss both finished with 7 points each.
Beth Stratton chipped in 5 and Bethany Vaughn had
2. Lipperd led the team in rebounds recording her
third straight double-double, grabbing 13 rebounds
to go with her 14 points. Beth Stratton pulled
down 4 rebounds and Abbey Lemon grabbed 3. Erin
Collier had a team high 10 assists and 4 steals.
The Lady Raiders continue their season this Saturday
on the road against East Central. That game is
scheduled to start at 6:00 pm with the JV playing
first.
