A four-car crash that occurred on Friday, November
19, led to two Jac-Cen-Del girl's basketball games being cancelled
for the weekend. According to Dedra Montgomery, athletic director
for the school, the accident affected five varsity players.
The Friday night game between JCD and Oldenburg has been tentatively
rescheduled for this Wednesday, November 24, at 6:00 p.m. The
Saturday game between JCD and Milan has been rescheduled for
December 14, at 6:00 p.m. at JCD, according to Montgomery.
She further noted that while the students received minor injuries
they have so much to be thankful for. "They could have
been hurt so much worse, we're just thankful," she noted
on Monday of this week.
According to information from the Ripley County
Sheriff's Department, the crash occurred about 3:22 p.m. on
US 421 just north of the Jac-Cen-Del School, Osgood.
Terri J. Schuck, 18, of Osgood, was traveling northbound on
US 421 and had stopped to make a turn. She was hit from behind
by a vehicle being operated by Amanda C. Harmeyer, 17, Batesville,
who was also northbound.
Anthony Hahn, 27, of Greensburg, was behind the Schuck vehicle
when he saw Harmeyer approaching from behind. He didn't think
she could get stopped and said he angled his vehicle. He was
then struck by Harmeyer causing his vehicle to go off the roadway.
The Harmeyer vehicle went on to strike the Schuck vehicle that
was stopped.
In the meantime, another vehicle driven by Justin M. Foster,
16, of Napoleon, was also northbound, and struck the Harmeyer
vehicle from behind.
The accident was investigated by the Ripley County Sheriff's
Department.
