Osgood Town denied
grant this round
Cathy May - Contributing Writer
The Town of Osgood did not receive the Department
of Commerce grant this round. The town had applied for $293,750
for the Wastewater Inflow and Infiltration Reduction of its
sanitary sewer. This is a $587,500 total project with $243,750
coming from the Reynolds Foundation and another $50,000 from
the Rising Sun Regional Foundation. The town scored well, but
was thrown out on threshold because they did not identify where
the money for $60,000 worth of manholes was coming from.
The town will reapply in the next round. A public hearing
on the project is planned for the next regular Osgood Town
Board meeting on December 21.
Ed Tinkle, Commonwealth Engineers, reported on the North Walnut
Street project. The town plans to put curbs, sidewalks, storm
drainage and grind down the pavement on North Walnut from Fairgrounds
to Railroad Avenue. The town decided to make the street 36'
wide. The cost will be approximately $350,000.
The bid opening for the Water Project has been delayed two
weeks. Bids will be opened on November 30 at 7:00 p.m.
Attorney Larry Eaton was present to represent the Osgood Public
Library. They need a working storm sewer for their new library
project. The town will install a 24" pipe and tie in at
Jefferson Street. The town will provide the labor and the library
will pay for the materials, which will be approximately $40,000.
The first step is to take some core samples.
Marshall Koger, 545 S. Buckeye,
asked for permission to place a portable carport at the end of his garage on
Wilson Street. He also wanted to blacktop his drive. The town had no objections,
but suggested he contact the County Planning Director.
Gary McCoy, representing the Osgood Lions Club, asked if they
could use the intersection at the stoplight at 421 and 350
on May 7 for Candy Day for Cancer. His request was approved.
Keith and Nancy Reichers, 905 E. Beech Street, asked that
their water meter be placed on their property. It is presently
on a neighbors. They were advised the line there was old cast
iron pipe and very fragile. The town will again apply for a
grant in
2006 when the town plans to replace that section of the water line.
Santa Claus will be at the Osgood Fire Department Monday night,
December 20, at 7:00 p.m. The fire department will be collecting
money at the stoplight at the corner of 421 and 350 on December
18.
All three members of the Osgood Town Board were in attendance,
Jeff Volz, Paul Struckman, and Linda Krinop. Attorney Mary
Ann Gay and Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Tammy Wilhoit were present
to advise the board. The next regular meeting of the Osgood
Town Board will be held on December 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the
Osgood Town Hall.
