Holton Town Council commends marshal

The Holton Town Council met in regular session
Tuesday, December 7, at the community building.
Town Marshal Billey Moore reported that he had applied for
a grant for a video system for the police car. He also noted
that he had contacted Probation Officer Shannon Schmaltz, who
informed him there would be someone available to do community
service in the town of Holton.
Moore asked about allowing Amanda Wiley to do an internship
with the police department. She would be asked to sign a waiver
of liability.
The marshal gave his monthly report showing he had given 42
verbal warnings, 2 written warnings, 8 citations, 2 investigations,
1 arrest, 1 warrant served, had assisted another department
once and been assisted once. He also submitted a proposal for
Standard Operation Procedures to the council.
"Billey is to be commended for taking a department that
was nonexistent and making something out of it," noted
council member Rick Holman. This was echoed by others.
A 2003 Durango was purchased for the police department with
riverboat money. The old car will be advertised for sealed
bids. The marshal gave a routine maintenance report.
The council said they were pleased with the turnout from the
Christmas presentation given at the community center on December
3. Those attending enjoyed music from Hoosier Hills Bluegrass
and Tri County Harmonizers.
In other business:
· William Warren, part time employee for the town was
commended for his help in getting Christmas lights put up and
for donating some of them.
· Wilbur Myers, park attendant, noted that he will
be filling holes at the park and had bought new snaps and rope
for the flag.
· Council member Wilma Myers requested that as soon
as the weather permits, a driveway is installed on the east
side of the community building.
· Rick Holman, council member will check into getting
some type of communication system for town employee Steve Troxell.
Wilma Myers was thanked for all her work in decorating the
community building.
It was noted that those owing delinquent sewer bills will
be receiving notices that they have been filed against in small
claims court.
Those in attendance included Velma Stickelman, clerk-treasurer,
Bob Furst, president, Rick Holman and Wilma Myers, council
members, Billey Moore, town marshal, Wilbur Myers, park attendant,
Steve Troxell and William Warren, town employees.
The next regular meeting of the Holton Town Council will be
January 4, 2005, at the community building on Versailles Street.
