Lady Indians grab second straight victory with 48-44 win over Lawrenceburg

Milan's girls basketball team picked up their second straight victory with a 48-44 win over Lawrenceburg on the road last Saturday. With the win the Lady
Indians push their record to 2-8.

The Indians jumped to an early one point lead when they outscored the Lady Tigers 11-10 in the first quarter. The lead was soon lost though as they managed just 8 points in the second quarter to Lawrenceburg's 10. At the end of the first half the Lady Indians were trailing by one point at 20-19. Megan Lade and Katie Volz led the Indians with 6 first half points each.

In the third quarter the Indians more than doubled Lawrenceburg's output adding 16 to their total while holding the Tigers to just 6 points. Going into the final quarter the Lady Indians were holding on to a 9 point lead at 35-26.

Lawrenceburg chipped away at Milan's lead scoring 18 points in the fourth quarter, but Milan's 13 points were enough to hold on and get the 4 point victory.

Megan Lade led all scorers with 17 points followed by Katie Volz with 12 and Shayna Gerster with 9. Lacee Alloway chipped in 6 points and Kiley MacVey and Lauren Ison both added two points.

The Lady Indians' next game is against Jac-Cen-Del in the first round of the Ripley County Tournament at Batesville High School. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm.

Lady Eagles defeat Trinity Lutheran 62-37 on the road

The JCD Lady Eagles pushed their record to 5-3 behind a strong second half against Trinity Lutheran last Thursday night in Seymour.

After a sluggish start the Lady Eagles led by just four points at halftime at 23-19. Abby Rohlfing scored 10 of her game high 15 points in the first half.

In the second half the Lady Eagles outscored the Cougars 39-18 to grab the 62-37 victory.

Rohlfing led the Eagles with a double-double performance grabbing 10 rebounds to go with her 15 points. Emily Einhaus was next on the scoring list with 12 points, all in the second half. Janelle Hardesty chipped in 10 points and tied with Cassidy Krieg with a team high 4 assists. Rohlfing led the team with 3 blocks.

"We had a very sluggish start, especially on the offensive end but our defense got us some buckets early in the second half and the kids played with much more focus," noted JCD coach Scott Smith.

The Lady Eagles don't play again until the Ripley County Tournament, which will begin on January 4 at Batesville High School. The Lady Eagles will play against Milan in the first game, which is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm.
