Family filed missing person report on December 18

The body of William F. Miller, 70, of Cincinnati, was found Monday morning, January 3, about 10:00 a.m., near the Otter Creek Bridge on US 50 about two miles west of Holton.

According to Miller's son, Douglas of New Richmond, his father had been missing since December 18. "We filed a missing persons report with the Cincinnati Police on December 18," he noted as he stood along the roadside while rescue crews worked to bring his father's body up the steep embankment.

Miller's brother, Robert, of Tennessee, said he was the last person in the family to talk to the deceased. "I knew he was heading to Indiana for a Saturday afternoon drive to possibly Brookville Lake or Markland Dam, to look for places to fish," he noted. His last transaction on his credit card was made on December 18, according to his son.

After the family filed the report with police, they made posters with Miller's license plate number and picture, plus additional information on them. "We didn't feel like we got much help from the Cincinnati police," noted Miller's son. He said he was glad to have his father's disappearance reach a conclusion, he was just sad at what the conclusion was. "We kind of feared it would be this," he sadly noted.
According to both brother and son, they felt the Cincinnati police didn't follow through on the report and that's why it took so long for their loved one to be found.

A news release from the Ripley County Sheriff's Department noted that "it is unknown at investigation."

Sheriff Bill Davison noted that his department is investigating and hopefully more information will be available for Thursday's edition of The Versailles Republican.

The Ripley County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the Indiana State Police, members of the Versailles, Holton and New Marion Fire Departments and the Ripley County Coroner, Eric Karsteter.
