Big brothers big sisters needed
Mary Margaret Moorhead - Staff Writer

"There is a special need for adults who would like to spend time with a Little Brother or Little Sister," said Laura Rolf, community development director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of this area.

Since January is National Mentoring Month, the opportunity to be a mentor to a child means spending as little as a couple of hours two to four times a month to make a difference in the life of a child. "Youth who have mentors grow up to be better citizens, are more resourceful and responsible," said Rolf.

Big Brothers Big Sisters, a national organization, is dedicated to helping children become confident, competent and caring individuals through professionally supported one-to-one relationships with volunteers. It is a United Fund Agency and has existed in the Greater Cincinnati area for several years.

Rolf indicated the need exists in this community for volunteers to be Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Couples for Kids, or a Family for Kids. "There are local youth ages six through seventeen who are ready for a new friend, a mentor. The need is here; the opportunity is here. You can become involved close to home," Rolf said.

For additional information about the program, Rolf can be contacted at 812-637-1235 or at 800-689-0636. She is also available to speak at service clubs, church groups, or other community groups to share information about the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.
