Kennel issue still on agenda

The definition of a dog kennel again went before
the Ripley County Area Planning Commission at its January 4
meeting. The Ripley County Commissioners had voted to send
the definition back to the Planning Commission at their December
20 meeting, for further review.
There were about 12 people who attended the meeting to again
protest going back to the 1991 version of the definition which
reads, "Any Lot on which (4) or more dogs, or small animals
at least four (4) months of age are kept." After discussion,
the Commission did exactly what they did in December's meeting,
they sent the 1991 version on to the Ripley County Commissioners
with a favorable recommendation. The Ripley County Commissioners
will meet on Friday, December 14, at 8:00 a.m. at the Ripley
County Courthouse Annex. This meeting was changed from their
regular Monday meeting schedule due to Martin Luther King,
Jr. holiday.
Doug Thayer and Barney Adams representing THA properties made
an application to amend the South Ripley Estates Phase II Unit
Development, lots 1 and 2. Their request was approved.
Ed Fraley's application for a re-zone to Roadside Business
at 1595 S. County Road 625 E., Milan was tabled by the applicant.
The officers will remain the same as in 2004 for the Planning
Commission. Re-elected president was Sam Row; vice president,
Dave Osborne; and secretary, Tad Brinson.
All twelve commission members attended the meeting: Sam Row,
Steve Youngman, Robert Gray, Henry Nickell, Jeff French, Sam
Melton, Covelle Mills, Roger Lang, Owen Menchhofer, James Negangard,
Kaye Hunger and David Osborne. Executive Director Tad Brinson
and Attorney John Ertel were present to advise the board.
The next meeting of the Ripley County Planning Commission
will be held on February 1, at 7:00 p.m. at the Commissioners
Room at the Courthouse Annex in Versailles.
