Lady Eagles push their record over .500 with win over Lawrenceburg

After falling to the South Decatur Cougars on Monday night at home the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles turned around and defeated the Lawrenceburg Lady Tigers at home on Tuesday night. "It wasn't a pretty game, but these games you just step up and find a way to win," stated JCD coach Scott Smith. The Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Tigers 52-42 to push their record to 7-6.

In the first quarter the Lady Tigers struck first to give them an early advantage. From there the Eagles went on an 8-2 run doubling Lawrenceburg's total at 8-4. From that point the Tigers battled back and the two teams scored evenly to end the quarter. After one quarter of play the score was tied at 17-17.

The second quarter was the same story with the two teams scoring back and forth before Lawrenceburg built up a three point lead midway through the quarter. The Eagles tied the game up and eventually took a two point
lead to end the quarter. At halftime JCD was winning 31-29.

JCD fell behind by two points early in the third quarter but battled back and grabbed their biggest lead of the game at 7 points. The Lady Eagles' defense held Lawrenceburg to just six points in the quarter. Going into the fourth quarter the Lady Eagles were leading 42-35.

The Lady Eagles' strong defense continued through the fourth quarter as they held the Tigers to just 7 points in the quarter. Their offense added 11 more points in the quarter to grab the double-digit victory.

Janelle Hardesty led the Eagles with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in the contest. Emily Einhaus chipped in 10 points followed by Erika Simon with 8 and Abby Rohlfing with 6. Rohlfing led JCD with 10 rebounds followed by Traci Siebert with 8.

The Lady Eagles continue their season this Friday at home against Southwestern-Shelby. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm with the JV playing first.

Raiders defeat Milan in County Tourney to grab sixth win of season

After South Ripley lost to Batesville and Milan fell to Jac-Cen-Del in the first round of the Ripley County Tournament the two teams faced off in the consolation game on Saturday night. The Raiders grabbed their sixth victory of the season with a 54-40 victory over the Indians.

South Ripley jumped out to an early lead when they outscored Milan 13-4 in the first quarter. Milan then outscored the Raiders in the second quarter to cut the lead to 7 going into halftime. After the first half of play the Raiders were leading 21-14.

In the third quarter the Raiders built on their lead outscoring Milan 19-10 in the quarter. Going into the fourth quarter South Ripley was holding on to a 40-24 lead.

Milan outscored the Raiders again in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to overcome the 16 point deficit as South Ripley walked away with the 54-40 victory.
Michael Fear and Michael Mathews led the Raiders with 12 points apiece followed by Tyler Ester with 11 and Tony Lloyd with 7. Lloyd had a team high 12 rebounds.

David McIntosh led Milan with 13 points followed by Scott Bergman with 10 and Brandon Montooth with 7. McIntosh had a team high 9 rebounds followed by Derek Pennington with 8.

Both teams are on the road this Friday night with South Ripley traveling to Jennings County and Milan going to Rising Sun. Both games are scheduled to start at 6:00 pm with the JV playing first.
