Milan woman wins $20,000

Gerry Doane of Milan, was excited when she knew
she was going to get her chance on the Hoosier Millionaire
Show. She was even more excited when she actually got there
and won $20,000.
Gerry and husband Ray, were treated to a buffet and stay in
the Omni in downtown Indianapolis the night before the show
was taped, January 12. The next day they were on their way
to the studio, which was located by the Speedway. There they
met up with family members, Gerry's brother, Ronald Brandes
and sister Juanita Taffe, and friend, Wanda Burnett who were
going to be in the audience along with Ray to cheer Gerry on.
Gerry's first selection gave her 7,000. The second round was
$2,000, with the third try being another $2,000. This gave
her the chance to go to the playoffs where she won another
$9,000 - for the grand total of $20,000. Gerry was just beneath
the top winner, Don Henry of Greensburg, who won $24,000 on
the show and was given the chance to play the DOUBLER. He picked
the letter R, and instantly went to $72,000. Then he took a
big chance and hit the "go" button, but was knocked
back down to his original winnings of $24,000. His wife said, "he's
a gambler, I knew he would do it."
What will Gerry do with her winnings? She laughed as she told
show officials, "Buy more lottery tickets of course," then
on a more serious note, "we'll probably pay off our mort
gage."
The excitement all began when husband Ray sent in tickets
with Gerry's name on them to Hoosier Millionaire. Her ticket
was drawn out of over 5000 and she was on her way to Indianapolis
for the taping of the January 22, airing of Hoosier Millionaire.
The ticket was purchased at Haessig's Market on Hwy 101 between
Milan and Sunman. According to Gerry, the store will get 1%
of her winnings - $200.00.
After the taping, Gerry treated her family members and friend
to lunch and noted it was a great experience but she would
be back at work on Friday at the Ripley County Sheriff's Department.
She has worked there for ten years as the Matron.
