Jac-Cen-Del's girls Varsity Basketball team won their second straight IHSAA Sectional Tournament after defeating Oldenburg and South Decatur on their home court. The Lady Eagles defeated Oldenburg in the second round of the tournament 76-53 then defeated South Decatur 63-47 in the championship game.

In their win over the Oldenburg Lady Twisters it was a tale of two halves. The game looked like it was going to be close all the way to the wire in the first half with the Lady Eagles only leading by seven at halftime. But in the second half JCD turned up the intensity outscoring their opponent 43-27 to grab the 23 point victory.

Emily Einhaus was on fire for the Eagles scoring their first six points of the contest with three mid-ranged jumpers. From there she carried her team with a career-high 28 points. "Emily played the game of her career tonight," stated JCD coach Scott Smith, "But it's a game she is capable of playing regularly."

Following Einhaus' 28 was Janelle Hardesty with 11 points and Alisha Lord with 10, Abby Rohlfing chipped in 9 and Traci Siebert finished with 8. Hardesty finished the game with a double-double with 14 assists to go with her 11 points. Einhaus had a team high 6 rebounds and 6 steals.

In the championship game the Lady Eagles looked like they were going to blow out the Lady Cougars as they started the game on a 22-4 run, which stretched through the first part of the second quarter. The cougars battled back some in the second but JCD was still holding on to a 35-16 lead at halftime.

In the second half the Eagles were outscored 31-28 but their stellar first half helped them hold on and win their second straight 1A Sectional Championship.

Although the Lady Eagles com
mitted 25 turnovers in the contest they still out-rebounded the opponent 46-30. They outscored South Decatur 22-8 in the paint and had 20 points off the bench.

Janelle Hardesty finished the game with a rare triple-double scoring 24 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists. She also tied for a team high with Abby Rohlfing with 3 steals.

Alisha Lord was the only other Eagle to score double-digits finishing the game with 14 points. Cassidy Krieg chipped in 7 and Emily Einhaus and Erika Simon both scored 5.

"I'm proud of these kids," said Coach Smith, "They have worked and improved and matured throughout this season. This is the kind of reward you want to see for that dedication."
