Raiders defeat Milan in sloppy contest in first round of Sectional Tournament

Josh Barnett - Sports Editor

South Ripley and Milan's game Tuesday night was the prettiest game ever played, but like all contests their had to be a winner and that winner was South Ripley. In the Raiders' 56-

39 victory over Milan in the first round of the sectional tournament at Lawrenceburg High School, the Raiders shot just 33% from the field and the Indians shot just 25%. Neither team hit a three-pointer in the contest and Milan turned the ball over 20 times.

The Raiders opened the game on a 4-0 run before the Indians quickly tied the game up with a run of their own. From that point South Ripley outscored Milan 10-2 to take a 14-6 lead after the first quarter.

David McIntosh hit a field goal early in the second quarter to cut SR's lead to 6, but it would be the closest the Indians would get to the Raiders. South Ripley quickly pushed their lead to 10 and built it up to as many as 12 in the quarter. At the end of the first half South Ripley was leading 28-18.

Milan cut the lead to single digits in the first minute of the second half, but South Ripley struck back and pushed it back to 11 with just over 5:00 left in the quarter. From that point the Raiders went up by as many as 13 and ended the quarter with a 12 point advantage at 36-24.

In the fourth quarter the Indians saw their season slip away as South Ripley kept building on their lead. The Raiders went up by as many as 21 points about midway through the quarter but finished the game with a 17 point victory.

Tony Lloyd continued his stellar play leading his team with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Brandon Seabolt stepped up his offense with 14 points and tied with Lloyd for a team high 7 rebounds. Jacob Lemon chipped in 7 points and Michael Fear had 5. Seabolt finished with a team high 4 assists and tied with Lemon for a team high with 4 steals.

Terry Moore led Milan with 9 points followed by David McIntosh with 8 and Derek Pennington and Scott Bergman with 5 each. McIntosh had a team high 10 rebounds.

South Ripley will be taking on North Decatur in the semifinal round of the tournament this Friday in the first game of the night. That game's tip-off will be at 6:00 pm.
