Raiders season comes to end in overtime loss in second round of sectional tournament

South Ripley's basketball season came to an end last Friday with an overtime loss to North Decatur in the second round of the sectional tournament at Lawrenceburg High School. The Raiders lost to the Chargers 49-41 in the heated battle.

The Raiders opened the game with a 7-3 run with Tyler Ester and Tony Lloyd combining to make the seven points. The Chargers quickly cut the lead to two but the Raiders went on a 5-0 run to close out the quarter.

In the second quarter the two teams scored back and forth until the Raiders went on a little run to push their advantage to 8 with just under 3:00 left in the half at 23-15. North Decatur closed the gap a little bit but the Raiders were still holding on to a five point lead going into halftime. At the end of the first half South Ripley was leading 25-20.

The Raiders were held to just four points in the third quarter and eventually saw their lead slip away and go into the hands of the Chargers.
Tony Lloyd scored all four points for the Raiders in the quarter on two field goals. At the end of the third quarter South Ripley had blew their lead and went into the fourth trailing by one at 30-29.

North Decatur quickly pushed their advantage to three to start the fourth quarter but Michael Fear nailed a three-pointer to tie the game up at 34-34. Fear then connected on another three-pointer to give the Raiders a three point lead. Again the Chargers battled back and tied the game up on a field goal and free-throw. Brandon Seabolt drove the lane and hit a lay-up with just over 1:00 left to play in the game. On the other end of the court the Chargers tied the game up with a field goal giving the Raiders one last chance to win the game. Tyler Ester shot a 15 footer as time expired that rimmed out forc
ing overtime.

In the overtime period the Raiders couldn't get anything going as they were outscored 10-2 giving North Decatur the victory and ending SR's season.

Two Raiders scored in double-digits in the contest with Tony Lloyd leading the way with 12 points followed by Brandon Seabolt with 10. Michael Fear and Michael Mathews both chipped in 6 points and Tyler Ester finished with 5. Lloyd led the team with 8 rebound and Seabolt had a team high 5 assists.

Jared Klosterkemper led North Decatur with 18 points followed by Craig Koors with 11 and Jordan Wallpe with 10.

The Raiders end their season with a record of 12-10 overall and 5-1 in the conference and were crowned the ORVC Champions.

Eagles fall to Rising Sun in second round of sectional tournament to end season

Jac-Cen-Del Varsity Basketball teams excellent season came to an end last Friday night in the second round of the sectional tournament at South Decatur High School. The Eagles fell to the Rising Sun Shiners 61-57 in the four quarter contest.

The Eagles led the contest the whole game and were holding on to an 8 point lead going into the fourth quarter. Rising Sun scored 23 points in the fourth to take over the lead and knock off the favored Eagles. JCD shot a staggering 11-23 from the free-throw line in the game, 8-16 in the fourth quarter alone. They were also out rebounded 36-27 in the game.

After the first quarter the Eagles were sitting on a 4 point lead, outscoring the Shiners 18-14. In the second they continued to build on their lead by outscoring Rising Sun 17-16. Going into halftime JCD was sitting on a 35-
30 lead.

Neither team scored a lot in the third quarter, but the Eagles stilled managed to outscore the Shiners 10-8. Going into the fourth quarter JCD was sitting on a 45-38 lead.

Jac-Cen-Del scored just 12 points in the fourth quarter to Rising Sun's 23. The Shiners hit three three-pointers and 6 out of 7 free-throws to put the Eagles.

Adam Peetz led the Eagles in scoring with 18 points followed by Andrew Huntington with 10 and Tyler Einhaus with 8. Peetz finished the contest with a double-double grabbing 10 rebounds to go with his 18 points. He also led the team with 3 blocks. Einhaus led the Eagles with 6 assists and Chip Schuler had a team high 2 steals.

Curtis Fogle led the Shiners with 23 points followed by Nathan Keith with 13 and Jordan Knaus with 11.

JCD finishes their season with an outstanding 19-3 record and 4-
2 in the conference, which placed them second behind South Ripley.
