Raiders track teams open season with three way meet at home

South Ripley's track teams opened their season Tuesday night at home with a three way meet against Jennings County and East Central.

In the boys portion of the meet East Central won with a team score of 106. Jennings County was second with 37 and South Ripley finished third with 14. Izzy Burkett was the Raiders' only first place finish, taking first in the discus.

In the girls portion of the meet the Lady Trojans of East Central were the winners with 104.5 points followed by Jennings County with 29.5 and South Ripley with 22. The Lady Raiders had two first place finishers with Tracy Keyes winning the discus and Julie Lipperd winning the shot put.

The Raiders continue their season tonight (Thurs.) at Madison against Madison, Shawe and Southwestern. That meet is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.

Eagles open baseball season with easy 13-1 win over South Decatur

Jac-Cen-Del's baseball team opened their season with a decisive win over South Decatur on Monday night. The Eagles defeated the Cougars 13-1 in five innings of play.

The Eagles started the game off right retiring the order in the top of the first inning with three straight strike outs. In the bottom of the inning leadoff, Kyle Horan crossed home plate to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

JCD didn't allow the Cougars to score in the second inning either as they added five more runs to their total to push their advantage to 6-0. The final two runs for the Eagles came off a Chip Schuler two-run home run.

Neither team scored in the third inning, but the Cougars finally got on the board in the fourth inning scoring one run. In
the bottom of the fourth the Eagles poured it on South Decatur scoring seven runs on seven straight batters pushing their advantage to 13-1.

The Eagles defense held South Decatur scoreless in the top of the fifth inning forcing the game to end by ten run rule.

Chip Schuler finished the game batting 2 for 4 with a home run, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Adam Vollmer batted 2 for 3 with one RBI and a run scored.

Bryan Schwanholt started on the mound for the Eagles, pitching 3 innings and giving up no runs on one hit with seven strike outs. Tyler Bradshaw came in to close out the game, pitching 2 innings and giving up one run on 2 hits with no strike outs.

The Eagles play again this Friday on the road against Switzerland County. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm..
