Ripley County All-Stars sweep Tri-County All-Stars

Saturday night at the Jac-Cen-Del High School gym was the 52nd annual (30th for the girls) 40 and 8 All-Star game. The game was between Ripley County All- Star and All- Stars made up from Dearborn, Switzerland, and Ohio counties.

The girls game got the game night started. Ripley County jumped out of the gate with a 11- 2 run and never lost the lead. The score at the end of the first quarter was Ripley County Lady All-Stars leading the Tri-County All-Stars 11-6.

In the second quarter, Ripley County outscored the Tri-County All-Stars 13-6 for a halftime score of 24-12. Tri-County only scored three points in the third quarter and the Ripley County Lady All-Stars jumped out to a 21 point lead for a third quarter score 36-15.

In the final quarter the Ripley County All-Stars were outscored 13-7, but a little too late and the Ripley County All-Stars won with a final score of 43-28.

The Star of the Stars for the girl's contest was Erin Collier of South Ripley with nine points and nine rebounds. Other key players for Ripley County were Dana Smith of Batesville who also scored nine points and Katie Volz from Milan who lead the Ripley County All-Stars in scoring with 11 points in the contest. Brittany Cole of Switzerland County led the way for the Tri-County All-Stars with a double-double. She had 12 points and ten boards.

The boys, game was under NCAA rules with two 20 minute halves. The first half was back and forth with no team getting a bigger lead than nine points.

At halftime the score was Ripley County All-Stars 43 the Tri-County
All-Stars 35. The Ripley County All-Stars went on a 10-3 run and got their biggest lead of the ball game of 11 points. Tri-County then went on a run of their own outscoring Ripley County 13-4.

As momentum started to shift Tri-County tied the game at 68, and eventually took the lead. Ripley County then tied the game at 77 and ended the game on a 10-5 run to defeat the Tri-County All-Stars, 87-82.

Ripley County had four players in double figures. Three of the four were East Central's seniors who each had 10 or more points. Brandon Kaiser, who was named
Star of the Stars for the boy's game and will be attending Marian College to play basketball in the fall, had 12 points and four rebounds. Adam Weber also had 12 points and seven boards and T.J. Rauch had 11 points and six rebounds. Adam Peetz, the hometown senior playing in his last game at Jac-Cen-Del, scored 11 points and had four rebounds. The Tri-County All-Stars had 16 threes in the game and had three players in double figures. Kevin Hetzer of South Dearborn led all scorers with 19 points. Jordan Knaus of Rising Sun and Nathan Sneed of South Dearborn both had 13 points.

ORVC Winter Sports Award Banquet held

At the 2004-2005 ORVC Winter Sports Awards Banquet held March 30, at the Pines Restaurant in Madison, ORVC All Conference athletes and coaches were honored.

BOYS

Scott Holdsworth, South Ripley, was named ORVC Boys' Basketball Coach of the Year. The boys' team from South Ripley won the ORVC Conference Championship Basketball title.

Jesse McClure of Rising Sun, was named the Boy's Mental Attitude winner. Jac-Cen-Del took the title of Reserve ORVC Champions.

2004-2005 ORVC All-Conference Boys' Basketball members included: Tyler Einhaus, Jac-Cen-Del; Tyler Ester, South Ripley; Michael Fear, South Ripley; Curtis Fogle, Rising Sun; Drew Kring, Shawe Memorial; Brandon Lauster, Shawe Memorial; Tony Lloyd, South Ripley; Jesse McClure, Rising Sun; Jacob McVey, Southwestern; Adam Peetz, Jac-Cen-Del; Derek Pennington, Milan; Ben Schafer, Shawe Memorial; and Nate Thomasson, Southwestern.

GIRLS

Co-coaches for the year for girl's basketball were Donna Cheatham and Bill Snyder. Southwestern and South Ripley were named ORVC Team Champions. Erin Collier was awarded the Girl's Mental Attitude honor, and Reserve Team Champion title went to Southwestern.

2004-2005 ORVC All-Conference Girls' Basketball members included: Devin Brierly, Southwestern; Ashley Chase, Switzerland County; Erin Collier, South Ripley; Emily Einhaus, Jac-Cen-Del; Janelle Hardesty, Jac-Cen-Del; Kayla Hay, Southwestern; Kristen Hess, South Ripley; Julie Lipperd, South Ripley; Kristi McVey, Southwestern; Jaclyn Ranz, Switzerland County; Sammie Jo Walton, Rising Sun; Tara Valentine, Rising Sun; and Katie Volz, Milan.
