South Ripley baseball team loses to East Central in close contest ­ wins against JCD and Southwestern

On Friday, April 15 the South Ripley varsity baseball team lost a seesaw battle against an undefeated East Central team 8-7. East Central plated 2 runs in the first off freshman Kyle Patrick. South Ripley scored 3 runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-2 lead on hits by Brandon Seabolt, Cory Yeomans, and Israel Burkett. East Central retaliated in the top of the third with 2 runs to take a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the third South Ripley regained the lead on Josh Cumberworth's 2-out single and Brandon Seabolt's home run making the score 5-4. East Central once again answered with 3 runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead at 7-5.

In the bottom half the home team Raiders plated 2 more runs on singles by B.J. Sieverding and Russ Steinhauer evening the score at 7 runs apiece. The last three innings saw the score stay the same until East Central finished the scoring with 1 run in the top of the seventh to squeeze out a one run win 8-7. Hitting leaders for the Raiders
included Michael Fear 3-4, Brandon Seabolt 2-4 with a home run, and Cory Yeomans 2-3.

South Ripley rebounded on Saturday by beating JCD 15-12 in a wild error plagued game and Southwestern on Monday night 13-1 in a one hit pitching performance by Russ Steinhauer. Cory Yeomans pitched the entire game against JCD. Hitting leaders against JCD include Michael Fear 1-4 with 3 RBI, Tyler Ester 1-2 with 3 runs scored, Josh Cumberworth 2-3 with 2 RBI, Andy Hartley 2-3 with 3 RBI, B.J. Sieverding 1-4 with 3 RBI.

Hitting leaders against Southwestern include Michael Fear 3-5 and Josh Cumberworth 2-3. South Ripley is currently 4-4 on the season and 3-0 in ORVC conference games.

South Ripley's JV team is currently 3-4 after sweeping a doubleheader Thursday night against Madison 8-7 in the first game and against Shawe 15-5 in 5 innings in the nightcap.

Indians' win improves record

The Milan Indians won 3 of the last 4 games to improve their record to 5-4 on the season.

The Indians got wins over Switzerland County and Rising Sun to make them 2-0 in the ORVC. A win over Indianapolis Tech and a loss to Union County rounded out the busy week.

Andy McIntosh, Terrill Ash, and Brandon Montooth each pitched a complete game and got the win.

McIntosh gave up 11 hits, struck out 7 with 4 walks to improve his record to 2-1 against Switzerland County on Thursday.

Terrill Ash allowed 2 hits, struck out 2, and walked 2 in his first ever game as a varsity pitcher in the 4-1 win over Rising Sun.

Sophomore, Brandon Montooth pitched a 2 hitter against

Indianapolis Tech to win his first varsity game. He struck out 6 with no walks in the 10 run rule 5 inning game.

Terrill Ash was the leading hitter for the week, going 9 for 14, scoring 3 runs and getting 8 RBIs with a home run.

Derek Pennington went 5 for 11, scored 7 runs and had 4 RBIs.

Daniel Fleming hit his first home run of the year and had 5 RBIs against Union County.

Ben Shafer got the winning RBIs in the 7th inning against Switzerland County with a 2 run single.

Bob Stanley, Andy McIntosh, Sean Wegman and Wes Edwards contributed big to the Indians offense as well.
