motorcycle

It took a jury less than an hour to find Floyd
E. Heimann Jr., 23, Versailles, guilty of Receiving Stolen
Property, a Class D Felony.
The trial took place Friday, April 22, in Ripley County Superior
Court where Chief Deputy Prosecutor Ryan King presented the
case.
Heimann had been charged by Prosecutor Ric Hertel for having
possession of a neighbor's Maco Thunderbird Motorcycle after
it was reported stolen on December 5, 2003. ISP Trooper Jim
Wells located the stolen motorcycle in Heimann's sister's garage
on December 7, 2003. It was noted that the investigation by
Trooper Wells linked Heimann to the stolen property.
After the conviction, Chief Deputy Prosecutor King requested
that Heimann be immediately remanded to jail due to his criminal
history, which included a prior felony conviction for the same
thing - receiving stolen property. Judge James Morris granted
the request.
Heimann is set to be sentenced on May 12.
Prosecutor Hertel said this conviction was a "classic
case of citizen, law enforcement, prosecutor's office cooperative
effort." He praised Trooper Wells and Chief Deputy Prosecutor
King for "a diligent effort in preparing and presenting
the matter to the jury."
