Eagles sweep Jets in double-header

On Saturday, April 30 the Jac-Cen-Del varsity baseball team swept the Hauser Jets in a double-header at Jac-Cen-Del. The Eagles got on the board in the first inning when Bryan Schwanholt knocked in Chip Schuler. Schuler then scored another run in the third on a wild pitch.

Hauser finally scored in the fifth, when they had two runners cross the plate. Jac-Cen-Del came back with a run in the bottom of the fifth, for a final score of 3-2. Adam Peetz was the winning pitcher and threw a complete game. He retired the first six and struck out the first three hitters. He gave up two runs, none earned, off of three hits and had seven strike outs. All three of the runs the Eagles scored were unearned.

In the second game the Eagles came out on fire scoring three runs in the first. Hauser manufactured a run in the third, and added three more in the fourth. The Eagles answered back and scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth, and another in the sixth. Hauser tried to rally back in the seventh, scoring three runs, but the Eagles were able to hold on to get the win, for a final score of 8-7. Brandon Gehl picked up the win. He game up seven runs, three earned, off of eight hits and struck out four in six 6 2/3 innings. Bryan Schwanholt came in to pick up the save throwing 1/3 of an inning. The Eagles now have won four straight, and are 8-4 on the season.

JCD boys' varsity track team places second in three way meet at South Decatur

The varsity boys' and girls' track team ran in a three way meet at South Decatur on April 19. The boys placed second and the girls came away with third place.

Stephanie Carroll was third in shot put and Paige Thomas was third in high jump and fourth in long jump. Tiffany Richards was fourth in high hurdles and Kayla Bradley was fourth in low hurdles. Jodi Hardy was third and fourth in the 400 and 200 meter respectively and Kelly Wagner was able to place third in the 800 meter. Alisha Lord was second in the mile and first in two mile. JCD girls' relay team placed second in the 400 and 3200 meter relays.

The boys, who beat Oldenburg, but lost to South Decatur, were led by Kyle Horan, who came first, in both the mile and two mile. JCD's two mile relay team also placed first and their 400 meter relay team
placed second. The Eagles also got help from Michael Tunny, who was third in the 100 meter dash and fourth in the 200 meter dash, and Donald Chadwell, who was second in high hurdles and third in low hurdles. Also placing for Jac-Cen-Del was Austin Lord who came in fourth in the 800 meter and Cory Horn got third in both the long jump and high jump. Michael Comer was third in discus, and Tucker Brown was fourth in shot put.
