The South Ripley
boys' and girls' varsity track
teams traveled to Jennings County
to compete in the Big Blue Relays
on April 29. They competed against
six other schools, but both teams
finished seventh overall. The other
track teams were Bedford North
Lawrence, Madison, Indian Creek,
Hauser, Jennings County, and Whiteland.
In the girls' portion
of the meet, Bedford North Lawrence
came out
on top with 140 points taking
first place, and Madison came in
second
with 104 points. Jennings County
came in third with 57 points,
and Whiteland finished a close
fourth
with 56 points. Indian Creek
came in fifth with 42 points, Hauser
was sixth with 36 points, and
South
Ripley finished the night with
25 points, coming in seventh.
In
the boys' portion of the meet,
Bedford North Lawrence came out
on top again with 134 points.
Jennings County finished second
with 104
points, Indian Creek was third
with 89 points, Hauser finished
with 88 points, Madison was fifth
with 41 points, and South Ripley
had 29 points.
The top finishers
for the boys were Otter, Asche,
Bolton, and
Mathews in the 800 meter relay
coming in sixth place, and Kohlmeier,
Swango, Demaree, and Lawburgh
finished fifth in the 3200 meter
relay.
Otter, Burkett, Asche, and Kohlmeier
finished fifth in the sprint
medley relay, and Jake McConnell
came
in sixth in the 110-meter high
hurdles. Jerry Coffin came in
sixth place in the 3200 meter run.
For
the girls' top finishers, Tracy
Keyes and Beth Stratton came
in third place in shot put, and
Ciara
McGuire finished fourth in the
100-meter dash. McGuire, Simon,
Groves, and Adams placed
fifth in both the sprint medley relay and the 400-meter relay. Keyes and Courtney
Snyder placed fifth in discus, and they both, plus Stratton and Becky Trowbridge
finished sixth in the throwers' relay. The shuttle hurdle relay team, which
included Hartman, Simon, Collier,
and Adams, took fifth place. Sarah
Hartman finished
sixth in the 100-meter low hurdles, and also placed sixth in the 1600-meter
relay, along with McGuire, Groves,
and Adams.
The next sporting
event for both teams will be May
12, where they will be competing
in the Ohio River Valley Conference
Tournament at Batesville.
