Raider softball team defeats Shawe on senior night

The South Ripley Raiders took on the Shawe Hilltoppers at home on Wednesday, May 18. The Raiders defeated the Hilltoppers 7-0 on senior night.

The Raiders scored five runs in the first inning and picked up one more in each the fourth and sixth innings. Casey Payne picked up the win, pitching a no hit shutout for the Raiders. She went all seven innings, facing 22 batters,
recording 11 strikeouts, and only one walk.

Leading hitters for the Raiders were Kristen Huss and Erica Burress both going 2-3. Huss also had one RBI and one run scored, and Burress had a triple, 2 RBI's, and 2 runs scored in the game.

Jenny Roberts went 1-4 with a triple and a run scored, Tracy Keyes was 1-3 with a triple and an RBI, and Ashley Burress was 1-4 with a double and a run scored.

Track Sectional held at East Central

In the boys' track sectional this year Milan placed third behind East Central and Rushville with a team score of 71.5. South Ripley placed ninth with 15 points, and Jac-Cen-Del followed in tenth with 9 points. There were 13 teams competing in the meet.

In the 100 meter dash Jermy Litteral, a sophomore from Milan, placed fourth with a time of 12.03. In the 200 meter dash Andrew Meadors, a senior at Milan, placed third with a time of 23.85.

In the 400 meter dash Meadors finished second with a 52.16. Craig McKittrick, a freshman at Milan, finished seventh with a time of 54.63. Craig Hill, a senior at Jac-Cen-Del, placed eleventh with a 57.80.

Milan junior Nathan Hampton placed fifth in the 800 meter run
with a time of 2:03.41. Ryan Kohlmeier, a South Ripley junior, and Ariel Lawburgh, a South Ripley sophomore, placed eighth and ninth with times of 2:09.58 and 2:14.31. Josh Dickey, a Milan freshman, finished fourteenth in the race with a time of 2:23.60.

In the 1600 meter run Brandon Welti, a senior from Milan, earned a second place finish by recording a time of 4:33.59.

Welti also finished second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:02.10. Justin Eaton, a sophomore from Jac-Cen-Del, finished third in the race with a 10:07.45.

Darren Hess, a sophomore from Milan, finished seventh in the 110 meter hurdles recording a time of 17.50.

In the 300 meter hurdles Josh Schwanholt, a Milan sophomore, finished fourth with a time of 43.68. Hess finished ninth in the race with a 45.71.

Milan's 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relay teams both finished fourth in their races with times of 46.53 and 3:44.05. South Ripley's 4x800 meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 9:25.55, followed by Milan's team in sixth, recording a 9:53.71.

In the high jump Meadors finished second with a distance of 6'. South Ripley senior, Neil Bolton recorded a distance of 5'08" for a fifth place finish, and Hess came in sixth with 5'06".

In the long jump Jake McConnell, a South Ripley freshman, finished in fourteenth position with a 16'04". Marshall Williamson, a junior from Milan, followed in the fifteenth spot with a 15'11.50.

Israel Burkett, a South Ripley senior, finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 44'07". Tucker Brown, a Jac-Cen-Del sophomore finished seventh with a 41', and his teammate Michael Comer, a junior finished ninth with a 37'11.50". In eighth place, Nicholas Oesterling, a Milan senior, recorded a throw of 40'09.25" and his teammate Tanner Roark, a freshman, finished in the tenth spot with a 37'11".

In the discus Michael Comer, a junior from Jac-Cen-Del, finished eighth with a throw of 114'10". In tenth place was Brown, with a 111'01". In the twelve spot was Josh Oesterling, a Milan sophomore, with a 105'06". Following him was Justin Copeland, a South Ripley freshman, with 103'10". In the sixteenth position was Zachary Baker, a Milan sophomore, with 91'03".
