Petition filed against juvenile in arson case

A formal delinquency petition has been filed against a juvenile in the case of a Versailles arson fire.

Prosecutor Ric Hertel noted that the petition was filed, but since the case concerns a juvenile, no other information was available. He did note that a special judge, Judge Todd from Jefferson County, has been appointed in the case. Hertel said the case will take longer than usual for a couple of reasons - the juvenile standing and the special judge.

The three-alarm blaze completely destroyed the house at 476 Tanglewood Road in Versailles, that was owned by Mary Ann Wise-Castner and rented to Diane Phillips.

Phillips and her two children were not at home at the time of the blaze, but family pets died in the fire and they lost all their material possessions.

Lt. Chuck Gunter, lead fire investigator for the Versailles Volunteer Fire Department, along with State Deputy Fire Marshal Jim Skaggs, investigated the fire that occurred on February 20, that had three departments responding to the call. It was determined to be an intentionally set fire at that time.
