Roof litigation settlement discussed at SR meeting

At the regular June meeting of the South Ripley
School Corporation Board of Trustees, a unanimous vote was
placed to approve the recommendation of a Memorandum of Settlement
on the elementary roof litigation.
Superintendent Ted Ahaus recommended the approval
for $420,000 to be placed in a Construction Fund for future
roof repair
or replacement, $450,000 would be placed in the General Fund
to recover roof litigation fees and the school would receive
the steel coil that is valued at $35,000.
Personnel items were:
· Deb Tompkins resigned as the superintendent's secretary/payroll
clerk, and deputy treasurer effective June 27. She will be
replaced by Karen Sieverding, with her hire date effective
as of June 20.
· Elementary Jump Start Summer School teachers were
approved. They will be Caroline Cumberworth, Ann Dicken, LeeAnn
Huss, and Norma Sheets.
· Jump Start bus drivers were approved:
Rose Morton, Barb Shadday, and Otis Walston.
· Karen Hafft will replace Karen Sieverding as high
school summer remediation instructor, effective immediately.
· Paula Speer resigned as Elementary Special Education
teacher effective at the end of the 2004-2005 contract.
Randy McIntosh represented the Administrative/Non-Certified
Committee with the following recommendations presented to the
board:
· all administrative contracts be rolled
over one year with status quo provisions;
· status quo contract for Principal Bill Snyder will
include the combined amount he was getting paid for principal
and basketball coach since his principal's salary was held
lower during the years he coached;
· remain status quo on non-certified pay rates until
a later date;
· effective June 1, 2005, all new employees
hired and current employees not on benefits must work a minimum
of 5
1/2 hours per day in one position in order to be eligible for
benefit coverages, such as health, dental, life, vision 403B
etc. It was noted that all current employees at the four-hour
per day level on health insurance
are grand-fathered.
The committee's recommendation was approved with a unanimous
vote.
The elementary and high school textbook rental charges for
2005-2006 were approved, as well as the approval of the Home
School Policy that was presented. Also approved was the updated
PL221 Plan.
