Officers elected at Jac-Cen-Del meeting

At the July Jac-Cen-Del School Board meeting, officers were elected. Kathleen Dickman was elected president; Deanna Young, vice-president, and Charles Hughes, secretary. Outgoing president, John Billman, received a plaque of appreciation for his dedicated service as president.

Ruth Ann Peetz was appointed treasurer and Pam Comer, deputy treasurer. Each will be bonded for $35,000. Extracurricular treasurers for each building, the bookstore manager, cafeteria managers and athletic directors will be bonded at $5,000 each.

Ruth Ann Peetz will continue to be the recording secretary for official meetings at a fee of $35 per meeting. Pam Comer will be her alternate.

The board will continue to meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at either the Jac-Cen-Del Elementary Library or the Jac-Cen-Del Jr.Sr. High School Cafeteria with special meetings for the 2006 budgets. The entire board will serve as the Finance Committee. Board members will receive a compensation of $2,000 per year, as well as a supplement of $50 per meeting not to exceed $2,600.

Timothy Day will serve as legal council for 2005-2006. The Osgood Journal and The Versailles Republican will be designated as the print media representative for legal advertising.

Superintendent Bill Narwold reported the bus inspection was held on July 19. Only one bus failed due to air in the brake line, which will be correct and sent back to be reinspected. A special thanks was given to the bus crew led by Josh Wagner. The police commented on how clean the buses were at inspection. Superintendent Narwold said the new buses have arrived. There is a vacany for a bus driver. It has been posted and a recommendation will be brought to the board at the next meeting.

The superintendent appointed Deanna Young and John Billman to the Personnel Committee; Paul Hardy to the Calendar Committee; and Deanna Young to the Task Force Committee.

The treasurer reported receipt of an advance draw of property taxes in the amount of $613,531.27; Financial Institution Tax (FIT) $21,843.50; and $6,101.00 Commercial Vehicle Excise Tax (CVET). Budgets will be advertised. Permission was given to the superintendent or treasurer to reduce appropriations in any fund as needed for the 2006 budget.

Sharon Marcum resigned as a special education teacher. Jessica Steele was approved as Spanish teacher. Joseph Haley will be the new special education teacher. Extracurricular and coaching positions were approved.

Four of five board members were present: John Billman, Kathleen Dickman, Deanna Young, and Paul Hardy. Superintendent Bill Narwold and Attorney Tim Day were present to advise the board.

The next regular meeting of the Jac-Cen-Del Board of Trustees will be held on Tuesday, August 16, in the JCD Elementary School Library.
